Walk the Line! Linear Nail Art Takes Over the Spring Runway

Sep 14 2014 - 6:00am

When it comes to nail art, lines are the beginning of everything. For Spring 2015, we saw plenty of inventive, straight-laced looks from a modern French manicure (Alon Livne) to a new age negative-space look (Nonoo). And you can create similar styles at home, even if your hand isn't quite steady. Zoya manicurist Rebecca Isa recommends buying a striping brush to help draw linear designs, and if the brush is too thick, you can trim the edges with eyebrow scissors. Meanwhile, backstage at Kate Spade New York, Deborah Lippmann used black striping tape to get a raised horizontal line. You could also copy Jin Soon Choi's technique and just free hand it! The stitch nail art from her Tibi show was all about organic vertical lines. Is the negative-space look your thing? Paint over a thin strip of tape to get a blank line as seen on the Creatures of Comfort runway. These linear styles are just the tip of the iceberg; see all the manicures from New York Fashion Week [1] for more inspiration.
