Sad news: Paul Starr, the influential makeup artist to celebrities like Angelina Jolie, Madonna and Bjork, was found dead at his Los Angeles apartment Tuesday. Starr was the first in-house makeup artist for Estee Lauder, the founding Beauty Editor of Flaunt magazine, and the author of On Beauty: Conversations with Thirty Celebrated Women (which includes original interviews with Lindsay Lohan, Pam Grier, Britney Spears, and Joni Mitchell, among others). I just turned 48 today and the first thing I found out was my friend and inspiration Paul Starr has gone home. You were one of a kind Paul. Your spirit was gentle, caring, bold, unassuming yet all with great flair. Even though it has been a very long time since I last saw your deft hand and focused eye at work, your success was no surprise and always made me very happy. You will be missed . . . but heaven just got a little more glamorous. Rest in bliss. Love, Bea
