Marc Jacobs has been known to pull out all stops for his runway beauty, and with custom-cut wigs — and a huge nail polish surprise — he didn't disappoint for Fall 2013. Lead stylist Guido (for Redken) turned every model into a brunette, cutting each girl's hair into a punk pixie backstage. And makeup artist François Nars put his focus on a dark eye makeup look that featured just a touch of shine.
The look: A greasy smoky eye, brunette punk wigs, and red nails.
The inspiration: Rocker girls like Joan Jett and Marianne Faithfull.
Overheard backstage: Marc Jacobs is releasing a new nail polish line this Fall.
Guido was busy backstage making each model into a brunette. He took the time to custom cut each wig into a style inspired by '70s punk rock star Joan Jett. It translated into a piecey pixie with long, sideswept fringe and lengthy strands at the nape.
François Nars described the look as punk-rock chic. "We have our favorite icons from the '60s and '70s," he said. "There were so many great characters in that time and there will always be some ideas from that era for makeup and hair." The dark gray smoky eye was created using Black Valley Eye Paint (releasing this Fall) on the lid and Pandora Duo Eyeshadow in the crease.
To complement the hair, Nars darkened the brows so that they wouldn't disappear behind the long bangs. He left the girls' skin on the paler side with a bit of sculpting on the cheeks.
Lead manicurist Elisa Ferri used a polish from Marc Jacobs's upcoming lacquer line : Marc Jacobs Enamored. She used one coat of Jezebel (a vibrant red) and one coat of Shiny (clear top coat).
