Michelle Phan's Picks For the Best Red Lipstick

Red Lips That Won't Kiss Off

We're excited to continue our partnership with YouTube star and all-around beauty guru Michelle Phan! Every other week, we'll be bringing you the best from her website, MichellePhan.com. This week, Michelle is sharing her favorite red lipsticks that won't kiss off:

Hi, everyone. Whenever my girlfriends wear red lipstick, their boyfriends seem to get so bent out of shape about it. For the longest time, I thought it was because they just didn’t like they way it looked — after all, red lips can very dramatic on some people. But as it turns out, it’s simply because they don’t want to end up with red lipstick all over their face when they kiss their girlfriends!

Try Michelle's Day With No Makeup

If only they knew that there are so many amazing red lipstick formulas that won't smear or transfer onto their lips! So what’s a red-lip-loving gal to do? Invest in a great, no-smudge formula and then let a brother know you're good to go! Here are five fantastic formulas to try that won’t end up all over your guy:

1. Lancome Color Design in Red Haute Matte, $22

2. Maybelline Color Sensational in Red Revival, $7

3. CoverGirl Continuous Lipstick in Really Red, $9.50

4. Make Up For Ever Rogue Artist Intense in Matte Bright Red, $19

5. Laura Mercier Crème Lip Colour in Truly Red, $22

Tip: If you already have a lipstick that you love, but you want to make it more smudge-proof, try applying a translucent powder over it to really lock it into place. To do this, place a tissue over your lips and then lightly dust the tissue with your powder brush to soak up any of the excess oil, and then reapply your lipstick. Also, apply lip liner in a similar color to create a barrier around your lipstick and help keep it from feathering. Happy smooching! Do you have a messy red lipstick stain story?
