9 of the Hottest Beauty Brands on YouTube Right Now

Jan 9 2016 - 2:00pm

Whether it's Desi Perkins showing us how to perfect the art of winged liner or Jaclyn Hill teaching us the basics of a smoky eye, beauty vloggers offer some of the best makeup advice [1] on the Internet. We turn to them when we want to learn how to DIY [2] an artistry trick or discover a new beauty bag necessity. And these YouTubers know their stuff! Due to their undeniable influence, brands want to work with them. Thus, they have access to just about any makeup product their hearts desire. But which brands do they go back to time and time again? Read on to get to know the nine beloved beauty labels that YouTube beauty gurus swear by and the exact products that should be on your radar.

Anastasia Beverly Hills

Romanian-born Anastasia Soare studied architecture and art — but upon moving to the United States, she began working as an aesthetician in Beverly Hills, CA. In 1997 she opened her first salon, where supermodels like Cindy Crawford [3] and Naomi Campbell [4] (and currently Kim Kardashian [5]!) flocked to get their eyebrows shaped to perfection by the pro.

Since then, Anastasia Beverly Hills has gained a loyal fan base. Jaclyn Hill [6] dedicated an entire tutorial [7] about how to define your arches using the ABH must have Brow Wiz [8] ($21). The easy-to-use, ultraslim mechanical pencil helps outline and fill arches to mimic natural hairs. It currently comes in 10 different shades, and a brand-new version with a triangular tip is launching later this year.

If you're an advanced brow shaper or looking for a serious dose of lasting power, Dipbrow Pomade [9] ($18) is exactly what you need — especially if you live in a hot and humid area or have oily skin. It really doesn't get easier to achieve gorgeous arches!

While the brand is known for brows, its other products have also taken off with the YouTube community. Vlogger Nicole Guerriero [10] endorses the color selection and customization factor of the Contour Cream Kit [11] ($40). Manny Mua [12] will help you find which full-coverage, pigment-packed Liquid Lipstick [13] ($20) to pick in this video [14] featuring swatches of the shades.

Becca Cosmetics

Australian makeup artist Rebecca Morrice Williams founded Becca after not being able to find the perfect foundation. Becca's products are all about complexion perfection, so they utilize light to play up natural features. Of course the vlogger community quickly got behind these made-for-social-media offerings. According to Kathleen Fuentes of KathleenLights [15], "A lot of people got obsessed with highlighting because of Becca."

Becca's creamy luminescent Shimmering Skin Perfectors [16] ($41) are favorites of Wayne Goss of gossmakeupchat [17], who recommends applying [18] them underneath foundation for a radiant look or over it for a more glowy effect. And although the liquid version is the original formulation, Kathleen believes that the Pressed version [19] ($38) reigns supreme.

One of Becca's biggest accomplishments was its collaboration with Jaclyn Hill on a universally flattering Champagne Pop [20] ($38) shade, which broke Sephora’s record for the most-purchased product on its first day of release.

To help you blend in all of that shimmer, snag the label's bestselling multitasking The One Perfecting Brush [21] ($49). This 3.5-inch-wide tool was made to take the guesswork out of picking a brush as it can apply liquids, creams, and powders with airbrush-like quality.

New launches that are sure to make appearances in YouTube tutorials include the Shadow & Light Brow Contour Mousse [22] ($25) — created to work together to enhance brows from filling in sparse areas to highlighting the brow bones — and Backlight Priming Filter [23] ($38) to blur imperfections and prep skin before foundation.

Gorgeous selfies, here we come!

ColourPop Cosmetics

Los Angeles-based ColourPop's powder-based makeup — like blush and eye shadow — is constantly popping up on various YouTubers' channels. But we can't talk about the brand without giving a shout-out to the lip color lineup, which is just as outstanding. The makeup is really affordable, and the vast color selection will make adding products to your basket dangerously easy.

YouTube heavyweights like KathleenLights [24] and CoffeeBreakWithDani [25] have collaborated with the brand to curate some exclusives. Where the Night Is [26] ($20), a four-piece eye shadow set by KathleenLights that came out this season, and Dani's custom lip color — Frida [27] ($5), a satin-finish everyday color — would make great additions to any collection of nudes.

ColourPop's OGs include Wisp [28] ($8), a golden-flecked highlighter that will help any beginner master the art of strobing [29]. Or go for the dark side with Stereo [30] ($5), a metallic burgundy that can amp up a basic smoky eye with a rich pop of sparkle. Noteworthy newbies in the collection include the Aquarius [31] and Taurus [32] ($5 each) lineup of lip colors and later this month, the brand will debut a range with actress Karrueche Tran [33] called "KaePop."

IT Cosmetics

The “IT” of IT Cosmetics stands for Innovative Technology, which is what Cofounder Jamie Kern Lima did when she developed the line. The former news anchor was in search of coverage for her hyperpigmentation and rosacea when she was in front of the camera, so she teamed up with plastic surgeons and dermatologists to develop this line.

CoffeeBreakWithDani made an entire video [34] about the brand's Your Skin But Better CC Cream with SPF 50+ [35] ($38), and points out you should apply it with a buffing brush to get the best results. It provides full coverage that brightens skin and banishes everything from redness to dark spots with a light application. The finishing touch, however, wouldn’t be complete without the silky Bye Bye Pores Pressed [36] ($29), a translucent powder made to provide an airbrushed look. Vlogger Alexandrea Garza even used on her wedding day! [37]

And we all know brows make the face, so IT recently launched the waterproof Brow Power Super Skinny [38] ($24), a 1.4mm-wide pencil to mimic natural brow hairs for a breezy application.

Kat Von D

Renowned tattoo artist Kat Von D is known for her personal makeup fearlessness, and when it comes to her namesake line, she uses the same approach. Since 2008, the Kat Von D fan base has continuously grown, thanks to the innovative range of long-wear, pigment-packed collection. When she’s not filming her own makeup videos on YouTube [39], others are! Vloggers Casey Holmes [40], Manny Mua, and Amy Macedo [41] have all buzzed about Kat Von D’s contour kits and high-performance makeup.

Each season, we can look forward to new shades of the brand’s most popular matte lip product, Everlasting Liquid Lipstick [42] ($30). Lipstick-loving vlogger Jessica Haze of mirrorsandhaze [43] loves its suede-like texture that doesn't dry out lips upon application. Sineady Cady, the force behind TheMakeupChair [44], dedicated an entire video to raving about the line's Tattoo Liner [45] ($30) — it's that awesome.

If you’re looking for some new additions for your own beauty collection, then the new Metal Crush Eyeshadow [46] ($21) and the nine bold new shades in the Studded Kiss Lipstick [47] ($21) are calling your name. The range of 11 bright eye shadows features a proprietary formula that makes the saturation of color vibrant, the application silky, and the metallic finish edgy. Needless to say, Kat Von D is for the bold and fearless!

Makeup Geek

YouTube’s own Marlena [48] created Makeup Geek in 2008, and the response has been only supportive for the vibrant collection. Most of the line consists of eye shadows in every color imaginable from neutral eye shadows to color-shifting and glinty pigments. Although the line is on the new side, devotees of MUG include Katie of Lustrelux [49], Dani Mansatti [50], and Jackie Aina [51], who have all featured its products in at least one tutorial on their channels.

Most recently, MUG introduced glitter-packed Sparklers [52] ($10) and the almost-sold-out Duochrome Pigment in Insomnia [53] ($12), which caught our attention immediately. Its texture is silky smooth, and the red-brown base balances out the bright-blue shades it’s infused with to create a unique metallic color that is bold but still wearable. For the ultimate MUG starter kit, consider one of the many color-filled Eyeshadow Pan Bundles [54] ($30-$60) and the Eye Brush Set [55] ($43) to tap into your inner makeup artist.

Milani Cosmetics

The makers of this drugstore favorite were inspired by the streets of Milan to conceptualize the collection of cosmetics. Expect additional influences from culture, art, and fashion in the chic products. Milani is all about pops of color at an affordable price point. Tati of Glamlifeguru [56] is such a fan that she once went to five stores [57] to get her hands on a limited-edition range of lip colors that she swears by.

We're partial to the ergonomic Eye Tech Perfection Liquid Liner [58] ($8), which is an innovative must try made with a nonfeathering, water-resistant formula. If a subtle pop of metallic color is what you desire, then the black-based Fierce Foil Eyeliner [59] ($8) is the way to go. But if there is one product that really gives this brand YouTube cred, it’s the 35-plus shades of Color Statement Lipstick [60] ($9), which are known for their superb color payoff and candy-like scent.

NYX

NYX (pronounced “nix”) is a drugstore staple that has gained popularity thanks to loyal YouTube fans like Shaaanxo [61] and ReadySetGlamour [62]. The cosmetics line — which also has freestanding locations in California — was named after the Greek goddess who ruled the night. And don't be fooled by the minimalist packaging, because the range packs quite the punch in the color department.

One of the brand's staples is the Soft Matte Lip Cream [63] ($6), which has the texture of a lipstick but goes on matte and comes in a wide collection of reds, pinks, and neutrals with a few deep and bright hues. It's no wonder the unique formula is a favorite among vloggers — nude-lip-lover KatheleenLights says [64], "They hit it on the nail with neutral colors!"

Newer additions include the creative Be Gone! Lip Color Remover [65] ($5) and the powerful long-lasting Gotcha Covered Concealer [66] ($6) that won’t crease or cake, but will blend seamlessly thanks to the coconut oil it's infused with. Last, but certainly not least is the California Palette [67] ($20), featuring shades reminiscent of a West Coast sunset, all curated by street artist Hueman.

Too Faced

Too Faced has been in the business of making high-quality makeup since the '90s, but Cofounder and Creative Director Jerrod Blandino continues to wow season after season. Blandino began his career behind the department store makeup counter, but nights spent mixing eye shadows and lipsticks at home soon turned into a game-changing color cosmetics line. His passion for creating makeup that is unique and innovative is what really sets Too Faced apart and is what elevated the entrepreneur to reach bona-fide success.

Most of Too Faced’s products have stood the test of time and are acclaimed by some of the biggest names on YouTube like Desi Perkins [68], Dulce Candy [69], and Gigi Gorgeous [70]. But the rock star of the group has got to be Lash Injection [71]'s ($21) sister, Better Than Sex Mascara [72] ($23) — the name speaks for itself! Gigi Gorgeous was even featured in the amazing short film [73], which is complete with girl talk, drama, sexual innuendos, and mascara tubes galore.

When it comes to classics in the lineup, Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer [74] ($30) — which literally smells like a delicious piece of chocolate — and eye shadow must have Shadow Insurance Primer [75] ($20) are practically synonymous with the brand.

Blandino and co. wrapped up 2015 with new products that are on our 2016 bucket list already. There's a 16-piece Chocolate Bon Bons Eye Shadow Collection [76] ($49) filled with warm neutrals (and complemented by some brighter pinks) and a matching six-shade range of Melted Liquified Lipsticks [77] ($21 each) for the ultimate sultry look.
