Beauty Byte: Hey, I Think You Dropped $400

In these increasingly shaky economic times, you'd think people might scoff at paying $400 for a body lotion. But according to today's WWD, luxury brand Kanebo is expecting us to do just that with Sensai Premier Body Cream.

The article points out that the new cream's $400 for 6.7 ounces trumps Creme de la Mer's body lotion, which is $195 for 10.3 ounces. Called "the ultimate body cream" by a company spokesman, the product includes Chinese Mulberry shrub, Japanese seaweed, and a Moon Flower fragrance. Are you reserving your tub now?

Give me my cheapo lubriderm and I'll be happy. Seriously. Unless it renders my skin gilded and ageless, and charms the jiggle from my thighs and tummy, AND pays my rent, walks my parents' dog (AND cleans up after her) and keeps my gas tank perpetually full, it ain't happenin'.

I don't care if you bathe in liquid gold and powder your face with crushed diamonds. THAT is just irresponsible. I'll stick with my $8 jar of nivea thanks.

I don't think so. I have much better things to spend my money on plus my skin is soft enough without it.

Kanebo doesnt even work. An Allure editor tried it out and wrote about it. The creme was 600 and it didnt even improve the skin for the long term

personally - unless this stuff magically changes my skin and body immediately, i'm not likely to spend that much money. i can think of a lot better things to spend $400 on - oh well. i'm sure there are a lot of folks who will spend that otherwise the company wouldn't have done that

LisaKate, I want to know where you live that you have two bedrooms for $500--I'm jealous ;) But yeah... there's another company that makes one for $1000!! I was reading about it on and they were just like, I feel like even the most wealthy frivolous woman in the world would stick with la Mer and drop the other $700 on shoes, lol...

Even with Oprah's bank account, I don't think I could fully justify buying this for myself. Especially when there are products that are probably just as good.

Meaning that I could, of course, buy FORTY of my regular moisturizer for the price of ONE container of this stuff. Jeez.

Yeah, um, NO. I'll be sticking with my lovely "Drenched in Pink" moisturizer, thanks. 2 for $20 FTW.

Wow. It's like $60 per ounce. So even if Fresh Sugar Acai body cream is $65, you're getting a whole bottle.

That's just inconceivable to me. Even if I had that kind of money, I'd rather spend on something worthwhile; at least cosmetic procedures are guaranteed results. As terrible as this economic downturn has been, I feel like it is making me reassess my priorities. Hopefully, it will decrease our society's overall tendency towards blind consumerism.

HMMM. I think I will pay my 70 for Fekkai's Whipped Body Creme. A zillion times better and nowhere near the price of Blahnik's. If I had 70 right now. I want to exchange my car for a freakin Segway!!!

I tried this out and it is nice but a little sticky. There's no way I would pay for it!

Unless it comes with a personal masseuse to give me a massage every time I'd put the cream on, or a eucalyptus steam mister so I remain calm and don't freak out over spending $400 for less than 7oz of body cream, no friggin' way. And I thought that Fresh's Sugar Acai body cream was overpriced at $65 for the same 6.7oz ...
