Nail Polish History Quiz

Do You Know Your Nail Polish History?

When I was a freshman in college, I was so into nail polish that I painted my nails a different color each day to reflect what outfit I was wearing. Blue shirt? Blue nails — no joke.

Looking back on it, how did I find the time to actually study between my polish changes? Somehow I managed, and my love for nail polish is still going strong (although not quite as strong as my collegiate years). This trip down memory lane got me to thinking. How did nail polish come to be, anyway? Well, take this quiz to find out more about this common beauty staple.

wow, that was very interesting - unfortunately, I only got two right. I guessed right on one, but I did know that Rita Hayworth popularized long, red nails - she was so beautiful and talented, how could you not want to copy everything she did?

The Chinese one has a lot of neat history behind it. Noble women would have petals crushed up, then their cuticles painted with wax. They would then have small balls of the crushed flower petals set onto their nails while they slept. When they woke, they would peel the wax off, leaving neatly tinted nails. I tried it when I was in grade school and mom wouldn't let me use nail polish. Azaleas don't work.
