You hear a lot of contradicting makeup advice for Valentine's Day: Wear minimal makeup, don't wear lip gloss, try to look your best, dress to impress, etc. My thoughts on the subject? Wear whatever you want! Does your partner hate slippery lip products? Who cares! The personal rule I like to stick by is to wear a lip product that fades naturally. That way your makeup will look good all the way through dinner. This Valentine's Day I opted for an ombre lip in which the color is concentrated on the center of the lips. This lip style is very popular in Asia and is meant to resemble that "just bitten" look you get when you eat a lollipop. Here's how you can achieve it: 1. Prep your lips by using your favorite lip balm. 2. Mute out your natural lip color using a nude kohl, concealer, or whatever foundation is left on your foundation brush. 3. Apply a bright lip color, preferably a long lasting stain like the Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm in Showy ($6), on the center of the lips only. 4. Blend the color with your fingers or by pressing your lips together. This will create a smooth transition. A pink lip will go well with many eyeshadow colors but if you want to keep your makeup looking romantic, try pairing it with soft purple hues. Here I used MAC Creme de Violet Eyeshadow ($15) on the lid and MAC Sketch ($15) on the outer corner.
