Perfectly Even Tans Are Impossible For Most People

Getting an Even Tan May Be Impossible

Another good reason not to bake? That perfectly even golden glow is actually impossible for most people. Researchers from the University of Edinburgh found that some areas of the body are much more resistant to tanning than others — meaning people often overexpose themselves in a cycle of attempting to "even out" their tan.

Unsurprisingly, people's butts were particularly uneven tanners — compared to test subjects' backs, for example, they were initially much more resistant to tanning, and then when they did "get some color" it wasn't as much as in other areas of the body. In other words, if you've got a pasty posterior, it's a better idea to slather on the self-tanner than the baby oil. But you knew that already, right?

Good to know. Now when my (very tan all over) sis makes fun of my snow-white butt versus my ivory-white everything else, I can tell her that's the way nature intended it to be and natural selection will prevail when all the guys think I'm the hot one. (I so wish that would happen, ha ha!)

Well I just want to say that i love the look of a tan, but i'm a health-conscious person who realizes the damage. tanner, you're stupid! i'd rather be orange than dead from cancer! lol katie.

ugh, here comes the "i tan and i don't care!" argument. let me sum it up for you: tanner: "i love tanning and i don't care! it's healthy! i don't want to look orange!" self-tanner: "i love the look of a tan, but i'm a health-conscious person who realizes the damage. tanner, you're stupid! i'd rather be orange than dead from cancer!" anti-self-tanner pale person: "i love my pale skin and embrace my natural shade as the healthiest glow possible. i don't want to look orange, nor do i want to be DEAD FROM CANCER!" the end. i've summed up all future posts on this topic. ;)
