God! When my parents' honeymooned in Paris in the '50's, he bought her 2 bottles of Chanel no. 5... They lived in Europe at the time, so it wasn't difficult for either of them to take so-called "day-trips" to Paris, Rome, Prague, etc. My dad decided that Chanel No. 5 would be just the thing to show her how much he loved her. She only had to use a little bit & everyone around her was captivated! When the bottles were empty & stoppered, she was still able to get scent from them by occasionally opening them, dipping a dampened cue tip in, & rubbing her pulse points. After she died a few years ago, she left 1 of the bottles to me & the other to my sister... 50 years on, we can still get the beautiful fragrance by lifting the stopper & inhaling! Of course, a damp cue tip brushed inside & rubbed on the pulse points works too. If I were rich... it would most likely be my ONLY luxury.

I guess it is the best selling perfume in the period 1921 - 2007, but I do not believe that it is still among the top ten best selling perfumes in the world right now. It sounds like a sales gimmick more tha anything else. Personally, I do not know anybody who still wears Chanel no 5, apart from old ladies. Coco and Mademoiselle are far more popular among all age groups.

I think everyone knows that.. Anyway, no 5 is one of those scents that smells awful on some people, and great on others. It's a chemistry thing I guess
