You know how it goes: you start perusing Instagram, checking out the popular page and investigating who has recently followed you, when you end up on a page that changes your life. Last night, that page for moi was the Real Techniques [1] page.
Much like some people relish gold flatware or leather jackets, I'm enchanted by the Bold Metals Collection [2] ($16–$26), a range of stunning metallic-finish makeup brushes. They're bewitching, really. And as a woman who has so many makeup brushes that I can barely store them in my apartment, I know I don't just want these: I need them.
Right off the bat, I was enamored with the finish of not only the handle of the brushes, but the chic ombré of the brush itself. [Insert emoji with hearts for eyes.] Can you say smitten? I've looked into why people are obsessed with these brushes outside of the fact that they're prettier than some fragrance bottles, and the consistent review is that they're super soft and the bristles don't leave a mess on your face. Plus, they can help you to create a flawless makeup application, whether if you're using the triangle foundation brush [3] or the pointed crease [4] option.
Now, you might be thinking, "Wait, you mean Real Techniques, the makeup brush brand that's been around for years?" Yes, that's the one. I'm almost embarrassed to admit I'm just coming across the metal collection! The brand was created by YouTube sensations Sam and Nic Chapman in 2011 (yes, Pixiwoo!) and is known for superior makeup application tools at a great price point.
I actually had one without even knowing it [5] — a gift bestowed upon me from the beauty gods one day on set. Why someone would give this treasure away, I do not know. Makeup application was grand with Real Techniques [6], until one day after a shoot, one of our production assistants accidentally threw it out. (Cue the screams.) I can vouch that the brush not only felt relaxing to use, but was versatile: I could apply cream or powder foundation with it, blush, highlighter, mattifying powder: the whole shebang.
So, knowing this, excuse me while I grab my card . . . I have some shopping to do. In the meantime, keep reading to see these gorgeous tools in all their glory.
