With weathered hair and burgundy lids, Rebecca Minkoff's Spring 2014 beauty look was inspired by Frida Kahlo and the Mexican desert. Jeanie Syfu for Tresemmé reinterpreted Kahlo's signature braids by creating a deep side part that added an element of asymmetry to the look, with one braid on one side and two braids on the other. The texture was rough and dry, adding a matte finish to the hair.
Sarah Lucero for Stila emulated Kahlo with bold brows and also stuck with a well-defined eye using the Smudge Stick ($20) in Deep Burgundy (available Spring 2014). She blended black and brown liners to give more depth and a punk vibe.
"If Frida Kahlo painted nail art, what would she paint?" asked manicurist Michelle Saunders with Essie. Her answer was hand-painted skulls, which were scattered on accent nails using Tart Deco ($8), a bright coral color, as the base.
