Review of CND's Shellac Manicure 2010-08-12 12:00:00

We Try Out CND's New Shellac Manicure

The gel-based base coat, polish, and top coat used in CND's new Shellac manicure don't need drying time and supposedly last for 14 days. But did this manicure hold up to day-to-day activities and stay chip-free in the process? Watch our video to find out.

I use tons of sunscreens/sunblocks because I try things out for work, but I always go with at least 30. This manicure is kind of reversed... they trim and file nails first, then paint, and THEN you get a hand massage. So you should be fine as long as you apply the sunscreen long before you get to the salon -- that way it won't be greasy. I'd recommend a chemical vs physical sunscreen for this treatment, just because it sinks in easily. Either way, though, you don't need to wash/soak/moisturize your hands before the polish goes on. And it dries right away, so there's really no risk of smudging.

Thank you for answering me so fast. But won't it wash or wipe off then, when they do the manicure? (I have solar urticaria -- which is, yes, really rare -- so I have to be careful.) What brand and SPF do you use?

You should put the sunscreen on about 30 minutes before you go to the salon. That way, you won't have to worry about it at all.

This is interesting (and necessary) about the sunscreen. How are people applying it without messing up the polish application? With a brush?

Glad to hear it's working well for you! I like your salt-saving paper towel technique. :)

I love the shellac mani. I tried it last Saturday. It has now been 9 days and the color has lasted better than anything I've ever used. I do have a chip on one nail, but thats because I broke it trying to open a container of sea salt. I broke the plastic ( I now have a paper towel stuffed down the opening, grrr...) and my darned fingernail. Otherwise, this mani is the ishhhh....Has anyone tried the gelish manicure?

Hi all -- thanks for the comments. Roma18, I put on sunscreen about half an hour before using the UV dryer. ALU -- I think you'd be happier with green, no? ;) ZZ- nope, it's my roommate's clip.

Great review Annie! I'm glad Shellac wore so well on you. I'm just counting down the days until March when the new colors launch. I'm dying for the purple!
