According to makeup artist Tom Pecheux, every great makeup look starts with skin care. At The Row's Spring 2014 show, he prepped each model's face with Sunday Riley Start Over ($85) eye cream before perfecting the complexion with tinted primer and concealer. For the eyes, cheek contour, and lips, Pecheux used earth tones in eye shadow shades ranging from gray to brown. "The girls [designers Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen] wanted the girls to feel a little bit raw, sepia, very earthy, and monotone. It's warm, but you don't feel the makeup," he said. "We're creating shadows on the eyes, cheeks, and the lips. It's matte because I want it to feel like the desert: the dryness and warmness of the earth."
With hats and turbans worn by many of the models, hair was left au naturel. Hairstylist Odile Gilbert applied a touch of Kérastase Nectar Thermique ($42) to any straggly ends, letting the models' hair do its own thing. For the nails, just a dab of cuticle oil was used (a relief for the models, many of whom endured multiple polish changes this week).
