Royal Apothic Launches Extracts Collection

Violets Beget Violets in a New Fragrance

My college boyfriend had lots of endearing quirks, and one of them was an unwavering devotion to old-timey Choward's violet mints. The floral flavor is admittedly a bit of an acquired taste, but the candies are oddly addictive. Sometimes I'll pick up a pack for old times' sake.

Now, though, I don't have to eat the candy to think of my former beau. Royal Apothic, a LA- and London-based fragrance company, has just released a roll-on scent that smells exactly like Choward's. Violet Pastille ($16) reproduces the candy scent so precisely that if I didn't know better, I'd think it was the real thing. Six other scents — marigold, orange blossom, green tea, fig, iris, and hydrangea — round out the group, but only Violet Pastille brings back memories of listening to The Pastels.

I think I tried those mints years ago and didn't care for it.
