Bloody-Good Makeup: Transform Yourself Into a Fang Fatale

When you google "sexy Halloween [1] makeup," a few looks pop up under images: leopard-print makeup [2], zombified fairies, Webby Woman [3], and this vampire look, which has flooded Pinterest. Source: Spirit Halloween [4]

The makeup is from the Bloodlust Eye Makeup Kit [5] ($25) from Spirit Halloween, which consists of peel-and-stick appliqués for your eyes. This would be a great way to vamp yourself up for the holiday, but if you're like me, appliqués can irritate the eyes. So I took matters into my own hands (literally) and put a personal spin on the look. Introducing Fang Fatale! It's everything a vampire should be: a little unsettling, bloody, and, possibly, a bit sexy, too. Here's the breakdown of the steps and the products I used, but be sure to watch the video for a full tutorial.

Step 1: Apply foundation a few shades lighter than your natural skin tone. I used Dolce & Gabbana's new The Lift Foundation [6] ($72) in Creamy. Make sure to conceal your lips, too. Then set your foundation with powder, such as Make Up For Ever HD Pressed Powder [7] ($36).

Step 2: Lightly fill in your brows with a taupe eye shadow.

Step 3: Create a dramatic cat eye with a liquid eyeliner pen. (Unfortunately this Victoria's Secret pen has been discontinued, but Stila [8] has another great option.) Leave the makeup on the lid — don't apply anything to the lower lash line. Then, fill in the wing with the liner.

Step 4: Add bloody tears to your cheeks with red face paint, such as MAC Acrylic Face Paint in Red [8] ($21). You can test this on a towel first, and if you mess up, you can remove the paint with lotion and a Q-tip or your concealer. Don't forget to outline your cat eye with the paint.

Step 5: Pat red glitter onto the paint. I used nail art glitter. Be careful with this, especially on children.

Step 6: Add extra drama to your eyes by applying lash strips, and then set them in place with mascara.

Step 7: Outline and fill in your lips with a burgundy liner pencil, such as Aveda Nourish-Mint Lip Liner [9] ($20).

Step 8: Fill in your lips with red lipstick, like MAC Red Lipstick [10] ($16), to create an ombré effect. You can pat on some glitter to complement your eyes, too.

Step 9: Add vampire flair, like fangs [11] and red contacts. Then you're ready to find your next victim!
