Shu Uemura Is Leaving the US 2010-03-30 09:38:49

Shu Uemura Is Saying Sayonara

If you're a fan of Shu Uemura's cleansing oil and gorgeous artist collaboration palettes, take a deep breath and sit down. L'Oréal, Shu's corporate parent, has decided to pull the brand from US stores.

The brand wasn't in financial or any sort of other trouble; L'Oréal has simply decided it wants to focus on its luxury brands that have a bigger market share already. The exit for Shu Uemura products is expected to take place relatively slowly over the next several months, with no set date for a final exit. In the future, Americans will be able to buy products on the Shu Uemura website. I'm disappointed that a healthy brand with unique products is being slashed this way. What do you think?

I know I'm late to this, but ARGH! I just discovered Shu Uemura ;/ I love their eye lash curler and that cleansing oil sounds awesome. Damn you L'Oreal!

I know I posted before...but seriously, I think as consumers and women we should take a stand and boycott these s.o.b.s that have NO IDEA what women really want. They're only getting rid of a brand that works to push their other products that don't, because they make more money with failed products that have to be repurchased.

totally stocking up on the eyelash curlers! thanks for the heads up. it's silly to pull the brand if it was doing well.

It wasn't even in any financial trouble? D: Why, L'Oreal!? :(

Will they still be sold on Sephora as well or is it just their own website?

I would stock up now if you have Shu products that you absolutely love and need to try out in person. Online shopping will still be an option for all of you who need to have your lashes/eyelash curlers/cleansing oils. I'm bummed because I love their foundation, and that's something that will be hard to shop for online.

Stupid corporate America. S-U stuff is lightyears better than most of the L'Oreal makeup that I onw.

Damn! Where am I going to get my fake eyelashes applied now? I mean...I only did it once, but if I ever got them again, I'd totally go there!

Such a pity! I live in Asia but go to uni in the UK and Shu is hands down one of the best brands around. It's packaging isn't very interesting, true, but in terms of quality, it's the brand MAC wishes it could be. Brilliant, beautiful high-quality makeup and the best brushes ever!

WHY?! New people in corporate?!?! Do they not understand they make the best cleansing oil and lash curlers; hands down? Corporate America is so out of touch with consumers it's not even funny. First Max Factor and now this?? I feel like I'm living in Cuba. BOO LOREAL! I'm with you all the way on that boycott.

Why would they do this? Shu Uemura products are unbelievable and they are just going to take them away? Ay-yah! No!

This is truly disappointing. Shu Uemura is one of the quality brands. I will certainly miss being able to purchase their products in stores.
