Smokey Eye Makeup Tutorial For Fall

Fall Smoky Eye Essentials

The following post was written by Alison M., who blogs at 10am Beauty, and is part of POPSUGAR Select Beauty.

Fall is my favorite season. The weather cools but doesn't get cold. Sweaters and boots come out of hiding. Pumpkin everything is at my fingertips. But most importantly, it's time for deeper makeup shades. The jewel-toned smoky eye is a Fall classic and with a few key products, it is easy for anyone to achieve.

For a heavier eye makeup look, always start with the eyes. This will prevent eye shadow fallout from ruining the foundation and concealer that we spend so much time perfecting. I like to begin with Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in Skinny Jeans ($20), which allows powder eye shadow to adhere better, appear bolder, and last longer.

To intensify the look further I use a creamy black eyeliner pencil like Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencil in Zero ($19) to draw a line across the upper lash line and in the outer V of the lid. I smudge the line to blend, and then the lid is then ready for color. The original Shady Lady Eyeshadow Palette by The Balm ($40) is quintessential for Fall. Jealous Jordana, Risqué Renee, and Curvy Cami are perfect hunter, navy, and plum tones, and the remaining six shades are fabulous complementary colors.

For this look I chose Risqué Renee and blended it all the way into the crease, creating a softer color at the top. The base of cream eye shadow and eyeliner takes some of the work out of blending, as they already created a gradient effect on the lid. Using a deep brown eyeliner on the waterline and All About Alex, an antique gold, on the lower lash line softens the look.

A light bronzer to contour, soft nude-peach blush, and a sheer-to-medium peachy nude lip color top off this look. Volumizing mascara and filled brows are a must to balance the rich tones on the eyes. The finished look has me ready for Fall. Who's with me?
