The original Max Factor Pan Stik ($23) was launched in 1947. The thick, creamy foundation stick can be used all over the face, or just where a little coverage is needed. The idea was that this base was "as easy to apply as lipstick." Over the years, women have used this for all kinds of looks — in the '60s teenagers would use it on their lips to create a completely matte, nude finish that worked with their dark, babydoll eyes and false lashes, à la Twiggy.
