Last weekend, I smelled Oscar by Oscar De La Renta ($58) while walking through a lot full of Christmas trees and stopped in my tracks because I got such a powerful image of my mother hanging ornaments. My mother has always worn Oscar, and for me, the scent of her perfume's drydown intermingled with the aroma of pine sap is the quintessence of late December, when my childhood home was full of both scents. It's the season of memory, and scent recollection is one of the strongest and most visceral manifestations of it, so it's no wonder that Winter is a time associated with smells, whether it's stuffing fresh out of the oven or something utterly personal, like that moment I had. Are there any scents that remind you of the holidays or anything that takes you back to a specific moment in time?
