Which Era Gives You Hair and Makeup Inspiration?

I've been on a real '40s kick lately, gallivanting about in seamed stockings and rich red lipstick. Before that, I flirted with looking like Jane Birkin, whose beautiful bangs and eyeliner make me feel like a foxy Frenchie in the '60s. To me, it's fun to take looks from decades past and reinterpret them into something modern. If you do this, too, where do you usually get your ideas?

I just love vintage style. One day i'll be very 20's art deco, one day 50's full skirt and fitted bodice, then i'll do 40's wide shoulders, pencil skirt, platforms, and red liptstick. 60's mod, beatnik, or hippie definitely comes up from time to time, 30's style fur coats, even Victorian style here and there. I love Gibson Girls. My friends like to guess what decade i've "traveled" from that day. Some people might think i'm too costumey or over the top, but that doesn't bother me at all. I know i wear my clothes well and never have to worry about my outfit "wearing me". Pin curls, dramatic hats, opera length gloves, vintage bags, red lips, winged eyeliner, i love it all. I don't do anything past mid seventies. 80's and beyond is not for me. Strange considering i'm only 21. Sometimes i think i must have been born in the wrong time period.

I'm with dublin in that I love the big natural 60s hair and using eyeliners....but I also love the natural makeup look when I wanna feel more fresh & clean. But I always love full hair :) and I don't always stick with one "style" really depends on my mood and where I'm going.

60's Bond/Bardot girl here with a splash of Lilly Pulitzer thrown in for good measure. Eyeliner and mascara my best friends!

my fashion dreams, when all the inhibitions fade away, are totally 80's. when i wake up, though, the 90's exert a moderating influence. =)

I picked the 70s because I am all about natural. However I really like the 40s. I am a big glamour girl.

There are glamour queens that I love from every era, and I try to pull off the looks that I can from each. Natural has never been my thing cuz well, I just don't look good naturally! LOL! Everyone else I know can roll out of bed and look like a million, but not me. To look glam over here requires work, and the look that works best on me is definately 80s. When I have the big hair going and heavy makeup, you know I belong on Dallas or Knots Landing. :P

i used to be into the 20s, then i went through a 40s phase, now i'm all about the 60s. the sex kitten eyeliner, brigitte bardot's pouffed hair, jane birkin's bangs, opaque tights etc. it's just all so good!!!!

Right now, I'm obsessed with the whole '60s French Sex Kitten look. Just the whole natural, confident girl at day, boudoir-ravaging sex-bomb at night is super sexy to me!

Right now I'm really into Tokyo's "princess" and "little devil" styles, which draw inspiration from 18th century Rococo, a bit of '60s mod, and '80s big hair. These girls have hair that makes Kirsten Dunst in "Marie Antoinette" look subdued, and they were doing it before the movie. It's completely ridiculous and extravagant, but I love it.

I'm not really into any of those looks. I'm more of a mix of all of them and that gives me a more individual look.

Either the 60's or 70's. But I voted 60's cuz I love eyeliner!

It's hard for me to say, because most of my every day looks are of our own time. But when I get glammed up, I go for the fifties--a pink angora Betsey Johnson sweater, hot-rollered hair and cute pumps make my life.

i'm pretty versatile - i like using different ideas from different decades. i love 20's/30's winged eyeliner and red lips, but also the bright bold colors from the 80's. i can go 70's natural and even 50's prim and propper. i like the option to pick and choose. :)

The 1960's bob refined by Vidal Sassoon. Precision, short, and angular. I've been sporting this hairstyle for the last several years.

i love the 40's hair styles- so feminine and put together... my hair on the other hand doesn't resemble that at all...but its for sure my favorite style.

40's...elegant, classy, sophisticated.

I think the 70's was either barely any makeup at all, but then there was that disco makeup...awful. VERY heavy makeup in the 70's. I don't know I'd call the 70's natural. So I chose the 40's, classic glamour is easier for me.
