Why Do People Dye Their Hair Blond?

If You've Gone Blond, Why Did You Do It?

Many of us have, at some time or other, lightened our hair, and more than a few have probably gone blond. But although a lot of us have been flaxen-haired at some point or another, I'm betting our reasons for doing so vary pretty widely. Some people go blond to cover up gray hair, some just want add a little contrast, and some want to feel like Marilyn Monroe. I've been blond for a whole host of reasons personally, from needing a change after a breakup to trying to copy Gwen Stefani's amazing hair. Why have you been blond? And if you've got a funny blonding story, please do tell!

I went blond because I hated my naturally black hair. It didn't look bad, but the damage was horrible, so I never did that again. Now I embrace my dark hair.

I have dark brown hair and have recently went blond. I love it! It is easy to be edgy and chic this way!

i had all colour n my hair you could think of. i'd change it every 4-6 months. and once i decided ok for this birthday i'm going ashy blonde and when i did - it look good on me and all my friend told me i look better with blonde hair, more approachable and not so much of dangerous rock chick as before. :D LOL right? well i like how i look with blonde hair now and i'm sticking with it till i get older, then i'm going Marcia Cross red and sophisticated.

There was a time I said that I'd NEVER, EVER go blonde but now I'm starting to get curious. I've never gone blonde but I'm thinking that maybe at some point in my life, I'd like to do it...just to feel like a totally different person!

Ugh, I did the whole "this color looks great on the box!" thing and my chestnut brown hair came out orange. I knew the color was bad, but I still thought i looked hot... went home for Christmas break and my dad told me he would pay whatever money it took to have it fixed. In the process, I found an amazing colorist that helped me keep my hair dark until the orange part grew out and was chopped off. Now I'm back to my original color, which I love (but occasionally still get bored with) and boy, is it cheap!

I was a natural platinum blonde as a child but in my teens it turned to a very hideous medium ashy blonde that washed me out (i'm alabaster white with pale gray eyes). So I have been dying my hair darker, usually a light red or light brown to give me some color. My husband had no clue that I'm naturally blonde until i tried to grow out my natural color for our wedding and it grew out dishwater blonde. Now I can't get enough of being red!!

i went blonde cause i was soooo jealous of agynes deyn! i had her crop and just had to have the platinum color to go with it. i have done it twice and had fun with it each time, but i feel weird being referred to as blonde since i have never considered myself so. at some point it just stopped feeling like me...but i bet i will do it again one day!

I had blonde hair as a child, and after my hair turning mousy brown and then dying it dark for three years, I wanted a change. I'm rather pale and my eyes are light, so I don't think the dark hair was doing me any favours. I love being blonde. I can wear so many more colours than I could as a brunette.

So cliche...I needed a change after a breakup. I really wanna go back to being blonde though!

I went blond right after I got married, I was a new person and I wanted to look like a new person. I have brown hair, and since I had already been a red-head, I figured I should go blond. It was great! I loved it! But it was a lot of upkeep. But it was great! Everyone should do it at least once, I don't think blonds have more fun, however I'm glad I did it!

I was 11, my mom let me dye my hair and I wanted to be as dramatic as possible. The color was cute but the damage was not

I went blonde because I started blonde. I was blonde as a kid, and my hair got darker over time, so I put highlights in it. But after having a kid, I figured I couldn't keep up with the constant roots and retouching anymore. Now, after cutting most of it off to get rid of the dyed and damaged parts, I'm starting to realize that my natural brown color is really pretty! No more blonde for me.

I was 15 and my friend bleached my dark hair, blond turned into tweety bird yellow and it majorly fought my skin tone. I feel like most of us try it once though haha

It was October in northern Indiana, and we'd just had our first snowstorm. It was the least desperate thing I could imagine! When I moved to the Bay area in California, Glenn, my beloved hairdresser, reverse-frosted it.

I just wanted something different. It was summer and I had a lot of highlights in my hair anyway. I had roots after about TEN MINUTES and going back dark was a nightmare, but I would probably do it again!

My natural color is like tree bark and it is gross. I've been blond for 2 years and I love it. I never want to be "Lizzie the girl with brown hair" because that could be so many people. Being blond makes me stand out, plus I'm not that smart so I can blame it on a stereotype. I'm blond for shallow reasons, but it's ok.

I had beautiful curly blond hair as a child, but it turned mousy-brown in puberty. I used to bleach it, because any darker blonde shade would look green-ish grey on me. Now I'm an unnatural redhead and I love it.

I'm Indian and I've never gone blonde, but I remember always wanting when I was little...I thought that defined beauty, even though I didn't realize that young I would look pretty ridiculous as a blonde! Now I love my dark hair and I never dye it!

I went blonde partially out of curiosity, but mostly because of an ex begged me to do it. It looked completely terrible! I had a TON of other dye in my hair before I did it so I have that kind of funky orange-yellow going and it was tough to take the steps to get it looking normal and natural. Plus I was working at Chili's and had acrylic nails so I was like... trailer trash chic. In fact, when making most beauty choices these days, when in doubt I usually tell myself, "Well at least it isn't as bad as the time I went blonde".

I did the same thing as anon for years! I've had my hair dark for about 2 years now. Honestly it's a lot easier because my hair grows fast and I did my roots every 3 weeks. My hair is much darker than I ever thought it would be, and sometimes I think about going back blonde, but it's so much of a hassle and most of my friends and family think I look better darker anyway!
