Concrete Proof That Rose Gold Is the Perfect Rainbow Hair Hue

Is a Wild Look Inappropriate After a Certain Age?

British fashion designer Zandra Rhodes is known for her out-of-the-ordinary sense of style. At 68 years old, she's still wearing wilder hair and makeup than most women who are decades younger. This punky look is uniquely hers, and it's a visual sign that she isn't some little-old-lady type.

I think she has the confidence to pull off her signature look, but not every woman can do it. (I'm not even 30, and yet I think my pink-haired days are behind me.) So what do you think? After a certain age, is wild hair and makeup inappropriate? Or is personal expression a timeless thing?

I don't think it really matters about your age when it comes to hair and makeup. I wouldn't want to see her in a cropped top and a miniskirt but pink hair and thick eyeliner is fine.

she just looks silly - and not in a good way.

Where would fashion be today, without it's eccentrics! Think Isabella Blow and Anna Piaggi!

i like how ballsy she is. i love the hair, but i think the eye makeup is a little unflattering on her.

Oh yeah, this is not cool after a certain age. Neither is too much makeup in crazy colors. Who wants to look like Ms. Dinsmoor from Great Expectations?

I think it looks fantastic - much better than it would on a young girl. It's like wild/garish eyeglasses - just cooler and funky on a mature, confident face. A signature look. Hope I can pull it off some day!

I like Swen's comments and I agree with most - if it feels good do it. Although I think she should be wearing pink lipstick to match her hair. It looks orange in the picture.

All I could see is the eye make-up.

I think it can look silly, but I don't think it's "inappropriate".

I'm 32 and have been thinking about pink streaks in my hair, but then I have to remember that I have a daughter in Kindergarten, and pink hair probably doesn't go well with that. *sigh* I'd love to do it, but I have to face the fact that I'm a grown up.

All I can say: Vivienne Westwood.

I'm so glad so many of you are with me on this! :D Just because you are a specific age doesn't mean you should stop being you. If you like being cookie-cutter, cool. If you like being a wild child, also cool. Rock on diversity! ;)

This is much more about style than beauty, if that makes sense, so I wouldn't judge her look solely on the aesthetics of beauty and what's flattering. If she has the self-confidence to wear a look like that, then more power to her. It's obviously making a statement more so than conforming to an aesthetic ideal. I wouldn't be able to do it, I don't think.

actually her hair isn't too bad, but she got way too much makeup make, lose the blush or too bright lips.

When I am an old woman I shall wear that is! Seriously, once I'm out of the workforce all bets are off! And if I worked in an artistic environment like she does I'd break out the manic panic tomorrow!

Actually I like it much better than the mature women in my area that all look alike....same hair, clothing, boring!

I think attitude is most important. Howevever, for me, I'm over the crazy hair colors at my age. I'm 26 and have my golden blonde hair back after a few years of hot pink and black, red and black and white hair.

I've seen grannys having blue, purple, orange, yellow, green etc hair color! I think it's very inappropriate! Let young folks rock 'em!

I think it's awesome when older ladies wear flamboyant clothes, hair, and makeup. It shows such confidence and personality. Everyone likes to be noticed, and they often can't rely on beauty anymore, so this is a great way to do it. I also think that it's your time to take chances like that. Suppose you worked for 50 years in a corporate environment where you had to wear dark suits and neutral hair and makeup everyday. When you retired, it would be great to lash out and do all the crazy things you never got to.

At my gym there's a lady who is about 35-45 and she just added some pink to her do and wow! She looks awesome! Some people just pull it off so well!
