While I try not to drag out my beauty routine into my commute, I enjoy watching those who do. There's something oddly soothing about viewing others apply their moisturizer, bronzer, or mascara — and sometimes, I get a few product recommendations out of the experience. That's why I celebrate this woman making news in China. According to the Daily Mail [1], a woman named Joey in Ningbo, China, is scaring her fellow commuters by wearing a black sheet mask [2] on her way to work.
Joey is reportedly working longer hours so she can get days off for her upcoming honeymoon. Because she's been so busy, she hasn't had enough time to maintain her evening skin care ritual, so she's resorted to applying her treatments as she travels to the office.
In the below video, another train passenger confronts Joey about her mask, saying, "It's too terrifying. What is going on?" The mysterious woman says nothing, perhaps because she is asleep. Dissatisfied with her lack of an answer, the intruder leaves the beauty junkie alone.
I confess, I'm a little jealous — not only does Joey get to possibly nap and pamper herself during her commute, her creepy mask guarantees an empty seat beside her. Now that's a powerful skin care regimen. (Joey! Tell me what you use!) If New Yorkers were put off by such behavior, I'd be tempted to try it myself, but I don't believe subway riders would be so easily fazed.
