Would You Buy Makeup From an Avon Man?

In a field dominated by women, Bobby McKinney is something of an anomaly: he's an Avon man. USA Today reports that selling cosmetics has been lucrative for him: Working with his wife, he made $800,000 in sales last year. Would you buy makeup from an Avon man?

avon isn't my brand so the sex of the sales rep is irrelevant. but if the sales rep of my favourite makeup brand was male i wouldn't shy from it.

I think that if a man is going to sell something like that then they need to try it to so that they no what they are talking about. Cause I like to know what others think about something like hows it fell when you have it on and if her doesn't try it how is he going to be able to tell me that?

no problem. men work at MAC and sephora and i've seen men at chanel and lancome counters, too. i have no problem buying cosmetics from whoever is working. besides, i know what i like, so i don't usually ask for advice.

it's hard enough to find somebody who sells avon... so i don't care. but usually i go into the avon shop and lie my ass off so that they sell me whatever i want without distributor :)

I think that's great...good for them.. I've shopped at MAC and every time I do, I think I get more help from a guy than from a girl..so..there ya have it!

I actually use to have an Avon person that was a guy! And this was about 6 years ago.

Sure! If he knew the products I would. I think a man would be more honest about what looks best on me. A lot of males are, "fabulous" and do make-up better than most women! I don't care either way as long as they know what they are doing.

I don't buy Avon, but I'd buy from a guy. Why not?

Honestly, I don't expect *any* Avon rep to really *know* the products; most of them are just in it for the money. I don't buy Avon except for the few products that recieve magazine acclaim, and in those rare cases, I already know what I want and don't need anything from the rep. However, I can certainly see how people, such as the people in the picture, would actually think the Avon rep is an "expert" and prefer a woman, or at least a man who knows his cosmetics.

Damn, I didn't know you could make that much money from selling Avon. That's insane!

I don't think I've ever actually bought anything from Avon, man or woman. lol

LVMH is headed by a male. LVMH owns Sephora. In turn, LVMH decides which product lines will be sold at Sephora. Take away the make up artists at Sephora and it's basically a high-end drugstore playground, you would decide what you like without the help of other. I could give a flying crap about what dude thinks, I'll do me and let him blabber about how the electric blue looks fabulous on my lips. But like others have said, there are males who are truly amazing makeup artists, straight at that.

why not, it is the same thing. They give you the catalog, and then you pick what you want, and then they give you and paid the merchandise. It is the same thing if is a man or woman.

Hilarious... I have my mac boys too! They make me look more beautiful than any female makeup artist has! The products are great, can be edgy or classic, and I think they are better quality than AVON! omg!

I don't really care who I buy make up from, as long as they know what they're talking about. It might be a little odd to have a guy walk up to me and start talking lipstick, but I'd get over it pretty fast.

At first I thought "no because he wouldn't have personal experince with the products" but really, and I know from being an Avon rep. for about a year, it is almost imposible to have experince with EVERY product they sell anyway because there are so many, plus Avon has many mens products that are taking off so it would be nice to have first-hand experience with one of those products if you were planning on ordering from a man but weren't sure about a product. So I would say I may be hesitant but probably would order from a male.

I'm with Jennifer76. This guy looks too much like a car salesman instead of a "makeup artist." I do love those MAC boys, too. Thye're too cool. They could see me anything. : )
