Alyson Stoner is the latest celebrity to embrace their body hair [2]. On Sept. 13, the actor and dancer posted a picture on Instagram where they showed off their armpit hair while discussing their experience with shaving when they were younger.

"In honor of discussing body image [3] and modification on this week's episode of #DearHollywood, I present to you my reclamation of beautiful, natural body hair," Stoner's caption read. They went on to note how growing up as a child star negatively affected their perception of the topic, womanhood, and their desirability. "I'd fully internalized these beliefs and found it horrifying to see anyone who wasn't a ~straightcisman~ embracing their natural body hair," they added. They have since changed their view, saying that their "fuzzy legs" are now their favorite and they only remove body hair [4] when they wish to — no longer because of fear or judgment.

Stoner joins the long list of celebrities and brands that have made a point to proudly embrace their body hair. Others include Julia Micheals [5], Amandla Stenberg, and Phoebe Bridgers [6]. Razor brand Gilette Venus even revealed an encore to its famous "Pube Song" [7] in 2022 where musician Princess Nokia raps empowering lyrics about loving their hair "down there." There is still a long way to go when it comes to changing the narrative surrounding body hair and it's worth celebrating when those with platforms do their part. Read Stoner's full post below.
