The Award-Winning Beauty Looks From Tonight's American Music Awards

Nov 20 2022 - 4:10pm

When you think about most award shows — like the Oscars [1] or the Emmys [2], for example — the word that probably comes to mind most is "glamorous." With the American Music Awards, however, it's all about fun . . . especially when it comes to the hair, makeup, and nail departments.

This year is no exception, and the stars who attended the 2022 AMAs put on a show that extends beyond its musical performances. While the night has only just begun, we've already seen french manicures [3], graphic eye makeup, and plenty of notable hair transformations. (Dove Cameron even delivered [4] in all three departments.) We also saw plenty of the year's biggest trends grace the red carpet, from 90s and early 2000s lip liner looks to minimalist manicures.

And that's only the beginning. Keep scrolling for some of our favorite and (dare we say) award-worthy celebrity hair, makeup, and nail looks of the night.

Becky G's Pamela Anderson Updo

Becky G walked the red carpet wearing a Pamela Anderson-inspired updo [5] courtesy of hairstylist Rikki Gajda [6] and Hidden Crown Hair [7] clip-in extensions. She paired look with smoky eye makeup and a nudish-brown lip color.

Kim Petras's French Manicure

To create Petras's beachy waves, hairstylist Iggy Rosales [8] used göt2b hair products — starting with the color. "We wanted to maintain her hair color but with dimension at the root so prelightened her hair using göt2b Bleach It [9] ($10)," she says. "From there we toned her roots slightly darker to give it more of a gritty look." Petras finished her AMAs outfit with a classic french manicure.

Tinashe's Bantu Knots

The only thing more standout than Tinashe's Marc Jacobs sunglasses at the AMAs are her Bantu knots [10].

Dove Cameron's Floating Eyeliner and 3D Nails

Dove Cameron's 2022 AMAs beauty look was a triple whammy of trends: graphic "floating" eyeliner [11], baby braids that framed her face, and 3D nails [12] in a gray-and-black pattern. Her hairstyle was created by celebrity hairstylist Clayton Hawkins [13] using Tangle Teezer and SexyHair.

Sabrina Carpenter's Supermodel Lip

The "supermodel lip" look [14] was all over the AMAs red carpet, and we especially loved the trend on Carpenter, created by celebrity makeup artist Carolina Gonzalez [15] using Armani Beauty. Carpenter finished the look with a brown manicure that had a tiny gem placed on the cuticle of each nail.

Joan Smalls's Jellyfish Haircut

Perhaps the most divisive hair trend of late, the "jellyfish" haircut [16] — a twist on the mullet that features two sections of different lengths of hair: short and blunt in the front and longer in the back — made an appearance on the red carpet thanks to supermodel Smalls.

Latto's Chrome Nails

Latto stepped out wearing one of 2022's biggest trends: chrome nails [17]. She painted her extra long set a classic silver chrome polish.

Ari Lennox's Blue Underliner

Lenox's powder blue eye makeup — a great example of the colorful underliner trend [18] — was the perfect monocromatic detail to her entire look.

Meghan Trainor's Splatter Eyeshadow

Trainor's hot pink splatter eyeshadow look tied together her glitter pantsuit.
