How to Get Jennifer Lopez's Famous Glow, According to the Pros

Nov 7 2019 - 3:25pm

Jennifer Lopez [1] launched her perfume, Glow by JLo, in 2002, and after 18 years (and 25 more fragrances [2]), the phrase lives on. Now it refers to her skin, which never ceases to look radiant regardless of whether she is performing on stage or sitting at home taking makeup-free selfies [3].

Her impeccable skin is thanks to genetics (of course), good habits, and a solid team of beauty pros. Over the course of her career, she's worked with various experts, two of them being dermatologist Dr. Harold Lancer [4] and aesthetician Louise Deschamps [5] of Lancer Dermatology Group.

Genetics aside, there are a few similar practices you, too, can follow. Lancer and Deschamps told POPSUGAR their best tips for re-creating that luminous skin [6] effect at home, ahead.

How to Get the J Lo Glow: Stick to Your Skincare Regimen

Having a skincare routine is one thing; sticking to it is another. That's what's key, according to Lancer. "Make sure to have a precise skincare program that you follow daily, which should include the basic products your skin needs in addition to targeted products," he said.

Those necessary products, according to Deschamps, are ones that exfoliate and moisturize. "I also tell patients with dry skin to add in a lightweight hydrating oil," she said.

How to Get the J Lo Glow: Make Mindful Lifestyle Choices

Lancer made sure to emphasize how big of a role lifestyle — particularly diet and exercise — plays in glowing skin. "Having a set exercise program to follow is important, as strong blood flow leads to healthy skin. Having a meticulous nutrition program makes a significant impact on skin because what you put into your body dictates what your skin will look like from the outside."

How to Get the J Lo Glow: Use 3 Specific Ingredients on Your Skin

Lancer recognizes that everyone has different skincare needs. However, he recommends adding three specific ingredients to your routine if they are approved for your skin by your dermatologist: vitamin C, glycolic acid, and hyaluronic acid.

"First, vitamin C helps to lessen the appearance of unwanted pigmentation, as well as sun and dark spots," he said. "Glycolic acid helps to exfoliate rough dead surface skin cells, and hyaluronic acid hydrates, plumps, and smooths fine lines by [improving] the skin's barrier function."
