I Used a Fancy Skin-Care Tool For the First Time, and My Skin's Never Been So Soft

Even as a beauty editor, skin care confuses me. With the exception of oiliness every once in a while, I've never dealt with any major skin problems, so until recently, I couldn't always see the benefits in the products I used. (To be fair, that's likely because I just wasn't using the right ones.) And don't get me started on all the tools — I regularly shy away from skin-care tools because most of them sound intimidating to me.

That said, there's one that I've tried recently that surprisingly managed to change my mind: the Joanna Vargas Magic Glow Wand.

How the Joanna Vargas Magic Glow Wand Works

The Joanna Vargas Magic Glow Wand ($285) is a USB-powered skin-care device that has four different settings that each target different skin-care concerns. Hot mode stimulates skin circulation and works to deep clean and eliminate the buildup of dirt and oil in your pores; hot massage mode helps the skin absorb products; cool mode is good for decreasing inflammation and soothing skin; and cool massage mode works to minimize the appearance of pores and decrease puffiness. It's recommended that, when using the tool, you do so with an extra layer of protection on your skin, like a serum, a sheet mask, or a clay mask.

I decided to try the wand out while wearing the Asarai Australian Red Clay Mask, which brightens the skin, tightens and unclogs pores, and detoxifies in 10 minutes or less. I also decided to use it on hot mode to get a deeper clean. After turning it on, I used the tool all over my face for about 10 minutes before rinsing it off and continuing with the rest of my skin-care routine.

Before trying out the tool, the thought of putting the wand in hot mode intimidated me slightly, mostly because I wasn't sure how warm the tool was actually going to get. Because I'm so dramatic, I feared that the heat would be too much for my face to handle, but it was actually pretty soothing. Once I washed the masked off and applied moisturizer, I could feel how much softer and cleaner my skin was; it felt very smooth and moisturized, but not greasy at all.

My skin feels great, and I even put a little concealer on after trying it out to see if my makeup applied more seamlessly as well. Spoiler alert: it did. The Magic Glow Wand might be a huge splurge, but if you're looking for a worthy investment then this is (in my opinion) a great option.
