If Doja Cat's recent Paris Fashion Week look [1] is anything to go by, crystals are set to be a huge beauty trend this year — and the 2023 BAFTAs took note. Jodie Turner-Smith made a sparkly statement on the red carpet on Feb. 19 by dotting iridescent gems across her cheekbones, nose, and undereye area.
Resembling a butterfly with wings from the bridge of her nose, the perfectly placed crystals enhanced the metallic purple swoop of eyeshadow across her lids that matched the hue of her head-turning gown. The mauve shadow was further defined with a thick black swipe of liner to create a fierce feline flick. This is the latest iteration of nose-bridge makeup [2], and we are here for it. Turner-Smith, who wowed on the 2023 Brits red carpet [3] just last week, added a neutral glossy lip that glistened in the lights. The "Queen & Slim" star opted for her natural short hair to further emphasize the mesmerising detail of her embellishments.
Her beauty look was paired with a crystal-encrusted purple dress with feather trimmings and a mauve mermaid mani as fans took to social media [4] to call out the "stunning" red carpet ensemble.
To further cement the fact that the crystal-eye-makeup trend [5] is a certified winner, last year's BAFTAs Rising Star recipient [6], Lashana Lynch, added a more subtle version to complement her ice-blue dress. "The Woman King" actor elevated her makeup by nestling crystal gems along her lash line and on her eye's inner and outer corners. The crystals added a fun touch to an otherwise classic smoky eye. Lynch paired the look with her natural short afro and a silvery short mani — favoring the trend of bringing back short nails [7] over extra long.
