JoJo Siwa's ponytail is gone, and her breezy new lob haircut [1] is here to stay. "Mayyyyy have done something todayyyy," she captioned an Instagram video set to Demi Lovato [2]'s "Cool For the Summer" on Wednesday. The clip gives a quick glimpse at Siwa sitting in a salon chair, cape and all, with half of her hair clipped to the top of her head and the other half twisted into a loose ponytail [3]. As Siwa smiles at the camera, the hairstylist picks up a pair of scissors off screen and snips off Siwa's ponytail, leaving her with a shoulder-length lob that may be the shortest haircut we've ever seen her wear.
The following day, Siwa shared a photo of her new hairstyle on Instagram: a chic undercut pixie hairstyle [4] with blond waves cascading down the side of her face. "HAPPPPPY," she captioned the reveal photo. The look is a big change for Siwa, but the massive smile on her face makes us love the new hairstyle even more.
Siwa has been wearing her signature ponytail [5] and sparkly bow since her elementary-school days, but the 18-year-old's new short cut isn't the first time she's made a dramatic hair change. In 2020, Siwa dyed her platinum-blond hair [6] a rich brown with the help of hair colorist Matt Rez [7]. Two days later, Siwa switched her hair back to blond, sharing a photo on Instagram that read, "brown hair was fun. ... but blonde is my thing!!!"
A year later, in October 2021, Siwa dyed her hair brown again, this time to twin with her "Dancing With the Stars [8]" partner, Jenna Johnson, around Halloween [9]. To complete her costume, Siwa paired the look with a bright-red workout set [10], white sneakers, and a jean jacket. In an Instagram [11] post shared on Oct. 22, 2021, she wrote, "It's almost Halloween . . . So today I decided to dress up as @jennajohnson 🤩 made sure I hit every detail from HEAD to TOE!!! Literally colored my hair and painted my toes🤣 definitely was worth it!!!" She's since dyed her hair blond again. Her new haircut isn't a decision she can take back with a little bit of hair dye, but we also wouldn't want her to, because the look absolutely has us ready to hop on board the lob trend [12].
Now that Siwa has a new look, it's safe to say that her shoulder-sweeping hair opens up a whole new world of hairstyling options. (See: the textured waves [13], the half-up-half-down look [14], the shag haircut [15], and more.)
