The royal family have rather strict beauty rules, extending all the way down to the color of nail polish [2] they can wear, but Kate Middleton appears to be taking some risks with her look lately. On Dec. 2, the Prince and Princess of Wales attended [3] the second annual Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony in Boston, and there was something different about Middleton.

Dressed in a rented bright green Solace London gown and emerald-and-diamond choker (which once belonged to Princess Diana), Middleton stood out on the green carpet at the banquet for environmentalism. Her hair and makeup followed suit. Instead of her trademark blowout with a middle or slightly off-center part, Middleton's hair was parted deeply to one side [4] with dramatic, voluminous curls, giving her look a touch of Old Hollywood glamour. Her makeup featured a soft-brown smoky eye (something the royal is rarely ever seen in), coral blush, and a complementary pink lip. This is quite the departure from the minimalist makeup she tends to go for.

Though this may not be groundbreaking for most, Middleton seldom departs from the signature look she's become known for since marrying Prince William in 2011. It's fun to see her experimenting with a slightly bolder look. Take a peek for yourself ahead.
