My Summer Beauty Routine Is Both Minimalist and Maximalist — Here's How

Jul 20 2020 - 6:05am

With the rise of K-Beauty, experts and influencers have argued that extensive skincare regimes are the key to getting a clear and bright complexion. Overwhelmed by all of the acids, essences, and ampoules, I've decided to go back to the basics this summer. Blame it on the lack of societal interaction or not wanting to complete an exhaustive, 10-step-plus regimen before bed, but I've simplified my routine, focusing on ingredients that target my concerns. It's uncomplicated and effective.

While I'm taking a minimalist approach to skincare, my makeup routine has gone full-on max. Pre-COVID, my morning makeup was quick and basic: concealer to cover my blemishes, a wash of neutral eyeshadow, and mascara before running out the door. With more downtime — not to mention, a stagnant social life — applying makeup has become an activity in and of itself. Whether it's floating white liner, color-blocked eyeshadow, or stick-on jewels, experimental makeup is my new norm.

Ahead, find multi-tasking products to streamline your skincare routine, plus color-packed, bold additions for your makeup collection — all from e.l.f. Cosmetics.

Jelly Pop Watermelon Cleanser

The Jelly Pop Watermelon Cleanser [1] ($8) is a hybrid product that tackles multiple steps without sacrificing efficacy. The non-foaming, gel-based formula wipes away makeup, dirt, and oil, while keeping the skin hydrated. Meanwhile, the anti-inflammatory properties of vitamin B5 work to soothe and nourish.

Holy Hydration Face Cream

It's called the Holy Hydration Face Cream [2] ($12) for a reason; hyaluronic acid locks moisture into the skin, keeping it super hydrated, day and night. The silky-smooth moisturizer is packed with powerhouse ingredients like niacinamide to create an even skin tone, squalane to calm irritation, and peptides to promote collagen. Plus, the fragrance-free formula ensures your skin won't get irritated.

Beauty Shield Magnetic Mask Kit

This internet-famous Beauty Shield Magnetic Mask Kit [3] ($24) gives you an innovative, effective skincare treatment without the high price tag. The electromagnetic mask features an iron-based formula and a magnetic wand to literally pull the impurities out from your pores, leaving you with clean, bright, and hydrated skin.

Retro Paradise 18-Piece Eyeshadow Palette

This Retro Paradise Eyeshadow Palette [4] ($14) is bursting with color. There are 18 tropical-inspired shades in both metallic and matte finishes as well as cool and warm tones, so you can really play around with looks.

Retro Paradise Multi-Dimensional Face and Body Shimmer

Glow to the max with this Multi-Dimensional Face and Body Shimmer [5] ($10). The highlighter is packed with glitter and shimmer. Put it on your cheekbones for a bit of sheen, or use a brush and apply it all over for a high-shine glow.

Retro Paradise Liquid Glitter Eyeshadow

Layer this Liquid Glitter Eyeshadow [6] ($5) over your makeup to elevate any look. Or use one of the three shades on its own for a simple wash of glitter. The gel-based formula dries quickly and won't budge throughout the day.

Retro Paradise Dream On Lip Gloss

A high-shine lip gloss completes any look. This Dream On Lip Gloss [7] ($5) comes in four tropical colors and applies sheer, leaving an iridescent shimmer. Plus, it's super nourishing without the stickiness of traditional lip gloss.
