Allow Nicola Coughlan's Makeup Artist to Walk You Through Her Pink Golden Globes Makeup Look

We truly owe it to Nicola Coughlan and her makeup artist Neil Young for catapulting us out of our makeup rut with her 2021 Golden Globes beauty look. "#GoldenGlobes from home, but make it a ✨moment✨," Coughlan captioned her Instagram post of the look — and a moment she really did make it.

On Feb 28, Coughlan served up one of the best InStyle elevator moments at the 2021 Golden Globes, wearing a Bridgerton-style yellow Molly Goddard dress and diffused neon pink eye makeup to go with it. "Nicola loves makeup, which is great for a makeup artist, so agreed we should do something graphic. I wanted to make it bold but beautiful, so kept everything else pulled back and modern," Young told POPSUGAR. "I thought pink would not only pull her out of the dress, but it also would pop against the yellow to give it a cooler vibe."

Since the dress was yellow, Young decided to warm up her complexion using MAC Studio Face and Body Foundation ($33) topped off with Becca Cosmetics Skin Love Glow Glaze Stick ($28) to highlight. Now, on to the main event: the eye makeup. To apply the shadow — which was blended to absolute perfection — Young started with a base of Kryolan Neon Pink Aqua Color ($30) as it "builds intensity quickly," he explained. Next, he topped it off with with the MAC Pigment in Process Magenta ($23), "pressing it over the lid first and then buffing it out towards the brow bones for a seamless blend." Young finished off Coughlan's eye makeup with lots of mascara, going for Givenchy Volume Disturbia Mascara in Black ($27).

For this look, Young decided to hold off on eyeliner. "It's more modern and beautiful as a statement above the eye only," he explained. "Otherwise it becomes just a smoky eye in a color, and on pale skin, it can translate as emo or gothic."

Now that you know the details, it's time to get digging into the bottom of your makeup bag for the brightest, boldest eyeshadow you can find, because it's hard not to want to get painting after staring at Young's beautiful look on Coughlan for the 78th annual Golden Globe Awards.
