"Don't wear red and pink together" is probably one of your grandmother's style mantras, right up there with no white after Labor Day and sequins can only be worn on New Year's Eve. Luckily, those rules were made to be broken — and Emilia Clarke just used the Met Gala red carpet as an opportunity to remind us how great the two colors can look together.

Daenerys — er, Emilia — swept an ample amount of dramatic pink blush on her cheeks, then offset the whimsical look with a dark crimson lipstick. This all came courtesy of celebrity makeup artist Jillian Dempsey, who used Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Color in Heather Pink ($26) and a mixture of the brand's Velour Extreme Matte Lipstick in Hot and Fatale ($28 each) to create the match made in makeup heaven.

In a press releases sent to POPSUGAR, Jillian revealed that she specifically mixed lipstick shades not only to get the perfect color but also to ensure the hue stayed put on her lips all night long. A rule-breaking, transfer-proof pout? Happy Met Gala, indeed.
