If You Love Tiny Tattoos, You Might Want to Take a Page Out of Lucy Hale's Book

Lucy Hale's tattoos may be tiny and sometimes hard to spot, but the Katy Keene actress has racked up an impressive collection, some dating back as far as 2012. All but one of her tattoos can be found from the waist up, which may come as a surprise if you're use to seeing her on TV, since they're usually covered by makeup!

Hale has 17 tattoos, four of them being matching tats she has with important people in her life, like her older sister, best friend, and even the Pretty Little Liars cast (yep, you read that right!). Her most recent artwork includes not one, but two tattoos; one being her dog's name inked in cursive and another the years her nieces and nephews were born. We know — super adorable.

To learn more about the meanings behind Hale's tattoos — like the elephant she got on a whim in Cambodia or the tat she got after a crazy breakup — keep reading. Plus, it makes for great inspiration if you've been dreaming about getting one yourself.

Lucy Hale's Bow Tattoo

Hale's first tattoo dates back to 2012 when she got inked by tattoo artist Dr. Woo at the Hollywood-based Shamrock Social Club. In an interview with Maniac Magazine, she shared that the inspiration for the bow came from wanting to do something rebellious and crazy after a breakup.

Lucy Hale's "A" Tattoo

Back in 2016, Hale and her Pretty Little Liars costars got tiny tattoos at the Shamrock Social Club in Hollywood to commemorate the highly successful show. And if you look closely, you'll notice the thoughtful placement of all of six tats: their "shhh" fingers.

Lucy Hale's "Courage, Dear Heart" Tattoo

Under her breast, Hale has "Courage, dear heart" in cursive writing — a line from C.S. Lewis's The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. We don't know the exact year she got the tat, but Lucy has photos dating back to 2015 sporting the cursive quote.

Lucy Hale's "I Love You" Tattoo

Because two is better than one, Hale and her sister got a second round of matching tattoos in memory of their grandmother: "I love you" in her handwriting. Hale also shared some kinds words about her sister, admiring how strong of a mother she is and that their grandmother is now "even more a part of us" and their sisterly bond.

Lucy Hale's Lightbulb Tattoo

Hale dished to PeopleTV in 2017 that, at the time, her most meaningful tattoo was a lightbulb she got inked on the back of her left arm above her elbow — once again done by Dr. Woo. She explained that her name means "as of light" in Latin, and although she also has a tattoo of the word light, the lightbulb is a direct representation of her name.

Lucy Hale's Bible Verse Tattoo

From the Bible, Hale chose the verse "Catch the foxes for us" from Song of Solomon 2:15. The writing is inked on the right side of her rib cage.

Lucy Hale's Intertwined Arms Tattoo

We don't know why, but Hale has since deleted her Instagram post illustrating possibly one of the prettiest tattoos we've seen on her but the design was by tattoo artist Rob Green and was done in 2018.

Lucy Hale's Zodiac Sign Tattoo

Hale added a Gemini constellation cluster tattoo to her impressive tiny tat collection in April 2019. Located on her upper right bicep, the artwork is very faint — making it difficult to make out — but includes her zodiac sign coupled with a star constellation. And of course, the ink was done by the one and only Dr. Woo.

Lucy Hale's "Elvis" and "14, 16, 20" Tattoos

This summer, Hale added two more tattoos to her growing collection. On her Instagram, she captioned the artwork gallery, "for my loves," with emojis of a dog and three kids. The name tattoo is a tribute to her dog Elvis and the number sequence — "14, 16, 20" — is a nod to her sister's three children Glenys, Lula, and Oliver.

Lucy Hale's Butterfly Arm Tattoo

In Feb. 2021, Hale got a small butterfly tattoo on her inner arm by Winter. According to her Instagram caption, the tattoo represents "rebirth."
