Rare Beauty’s Concealer Is an Instant Filter For My Face — No Foundation Needed

Sep 11 2020 - 7:40am

Well, Selena Gomez [1], color me impressed. Not only did I love how full my brows looked [2] with Rare Beauty [3]'s two-sided gel/pencil combo, I was immediately inspired to buy the "Inspire" lip soufflé shade once I spotted it on a fellow editor [4]. With that weakness for all things eye makeup [5] and creamy lipsticks, I still rarely wear base makeup [6], especially these days [7]. My skin is rather sensitive, prone to redness, and blessed with dark spots [8], so I do like a little coverage (or to at least hide my dark circles [9]) when I can find the time. And though I almost added the line's tempting foundation for "someone who dislikes wearing foundation" [10] to my cart, I decided to test out the concealer in its place.

It turned out to not be a mistake, and I couldn't be more pleased by the coverage from this little tube. Check out my before and after photos, and learn why I liked it, ahead.

Before

For the sake of transparency, here is a closeup of my skin. Not only is it easy to see the redness, uneven tone, and hyperpigmentation [11] on my (obviously) bare face, I'd like to even point out the marks from where I had been wearing glasses earlier that day [12].

After

Here's what my face looks like with Rare Beauty's concealer [13] dabbed onto dark spots with the doe-foot applicator tip and onto larger zones (like the side of my nose) with the long, flat side.

After I targeted problem spots, I used my fingers to spread this product all over my face [14], too. I'm definitely impressed by how well this formula covered my skin and still ended up in a radiant finish, not at all cakey or dry.

Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Liquid Touch Brightening Concealer

Not only does the Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Liquid Touch Brightening Concealer [15] ($19) promise to be lightweight and long-lasting (which I can personally attest to), it comes in 48 shades with a wide range of undertones, too.

Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Liquid Touch Concealer Brush

If you'd prefer not to get your hands dirty, there's also a Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Liquid Touch Concealer Brush [16] ($16) for a more diffused, sanitary application [17] instead.
