Sam Smith [1] just proved they've mastered the smoky eye trend in time for Fall. The singer has been experimenting with makeup for a while now and has been showing off their skills on Instagram [2]. The latest photo features Smith with diffused black eye shadow and liner, creating a smoky eye [3] in a cat-eye shape.

Makeup artist and artistic director of Glamsquad Kelli Bartlett previously told POPSUGAR that this particular makeup look would be one of Fall's biggest trends [4]. "The new smoky eye is imperfect and customized to create the ideal eye shape," Bartlett explained. She also suggested using a shadow stick to draw along the lash line and at the outer corners in a triangular shape and using a blending brush to give the edges a softer finish.
