Dear Poll: How Do You Feel About Your Partner Gambling?

I asked you last week how you felt about gambling and the votes were almost split down the middle with 41 percent of you saying you like to gamble and 43 percent of you saying you're against it. As you know, I am not one to gamble, but I can say without certainty that when I get married, I won't be into my husband gambling either. Although gambling is something a lot of men do, what I want to know is, how do you feel about your partner risking it all at the table?

My boyfriend's profession is poker blogger. He's also an amateur poker player. It's a big part of his life. Once I realized that he is actually good at poker and that it is truly a passion for him, I accepted his poker playing. He has won more than he's lost, it's given him a profession (poker blogger/writer), and he's very reasonable with his money. If I'm with him at a casino, he might occasionally throw $50 on the blackjack table, but for the most part he is strictly a poker player. He's good enough that he has backers that split his winnings with him -- that way he doesn't have to invest a lot of his own money into playing.

once in a while is ok, when we are on holidays we sometimes play $20 on keno (do you have that in u.s.??) and if we go to the races we might put $50-$100 on but that is once in a blue moon. i think the main thing is to make sure each other knows what you are playing with and that you are BOTH happy with this.

I wouldn't get involved with anyone who gambled. We've been to a casino twice in the 6 years we've been together. That's my kind of ratio on this sort of thing. WAY too many problems can come of gambling.

I think its ok as long as its not an everyday thing and he has 'extra' money or an account set aside for play money only.

We do not share money, so he can do whatever he wants. Having said that, he doesn't gamble, haha. We do personal bets, but it is usually for massages, sexual favors, or chores. Boring, I know.

I have a friend who's husband doesn't even work anymore - just gambles. He wins enough to keep flush, but I worry about her having to work so hard to pay the expenses. :(
I don't really have to worry about this, as I am the one to sit-in for a game of Texas Hold 'Em.

whenever my ex and i were in vegas he would take to the tables but i trusted in his financial skills that he would never go over his limit which he didn't AND he often won so no worries. the only problem for me is that i find it boring so i prefer a man who doesn't care for it and that's what i've got now

Ugh, on our honeymoon, my husband and I stopped into a casino in South Lake Tahoe and decided to throw a few quarters into the machine. Two hours later, we looked at each other and were like, "What are we doing?" It is a horrible addiction, and we both learned our lesson that night.

I think gambling when planning a future together is a little irresponsible.. but that's just me. once in a while is one thing... all the time is another thing.

It's something a lot of women do as well. I would have a problem with my husband being addicted to anything and not getting help, period. As he would with me. Gambling recreationally, I couldn't care less.

I'm ok with it, but gambling isn't my thing. It's his money he gambles with, and the extent of his gambling is a Thursday night poker game with friends, and the stakes to that aren't high.

My BF and I both play poker, but since we don't live where it's legal to gamble, it's really not an issue. We play in fun free tournaments, and online sometimes, but we have like, $20 on the line so it's not a big deal. To me, gambling is like alcohol. Some people can have a few drinks and never suffer negative effects from it. For other people, it can ruin their lives.

i think it depends on the extent of the gambeling.. i mean both my boyfriend and i bet on football pools at work and hockey and stuff like that.. a game of poker with friends here and there.. but we never take it TOOO far as to spend ALL OF OUR MONEY! .. thats when its a problem!

I don't really like it but every once in awhile is ok. As long as he doesn't make a habit of it. He once went into a casino and lost $120 in 30 minutes. :ROTFL:

Nope! Never! neither my bf or me gamble and I would never date a gambler. It's an addiction, and I could never live with it in my life.
