Do You Give Yourself Time Off Between Jobs?

Kal Penn gave notice to his old job acting on House three months ago, and yesterday he completed his first day as a liaison between the White House and Asian communities. Three months is probably more of a job hiatus than most of us can afford, but it's not rare that I hear of people taking off a few weeks when they're changing jobs. How have you approached time off between jobs?

A week at the most, otherwise it's waaaaay too difficult for me to get back into the work routine.

I'm currently between jobs and didn't even start looking until 6 months in. I budgeted for the time off because I knew I wanted a break. It's been almost 9 mos and I'm finally feeling like it's time to go back. Before this, I've taken anywhere from one to 6 mos off. I just don't see the point in not taking the time if you can.

Last time I changed jobs, I had a nice long month and a half-long vacation between jobs, which was kind of nice. I got a lot of stuff done around the house then.

The only job that I didn't take time off in between is the job I currently have.

not really. the only time that i did have 'time off' between jobs was when i moved from NYC to Florida and needed to GET a job. luckily it took me 2.5 weeks to get a good job - so that was all the time off that i got.

Ideally I like to try and arrange things so there is about a week off when finishing one job and then starting a new one. In reality, I've only changed jobs once so who knows if this will be the case for the future.
