Do You Talk About Your Spending Habits With Your Partner?

Money is one of those things that has the ability to break a relationship. If both partners aren't on the same page about saving and spending their money, there could easily be trouble in paradise! With that said, I was shocked to read a statistic in the June issue of Glamour, which stated that 40 percent of women never talk about their spending habits with their partners. Now I can understand the occasional secret shopping trip, even the notion of hiding the evidence of a spending binge, but not talking about how or where you want to spend/save your money sounds a wee bit irresponsible, even if you have your own bank account. So ladies, tell me, do you talk to your significant other about your spending habits or are you part of the 40 percent that keeps mum?

Ummm...well, we're married, so I kind of have to! He's always known that I'm a shopaholic and spend too much money. He's actually been really good for me, getting me to save some money and pay off more bills.

OMG...I've been thinking about this for a while. My BF and I have been dating for a year this upcoming Friday and I have NEVER discussed my bills/debts/spending habits with him. I'm not in the best financial position but I'm doing all I can to make it better by going through a credit counseling program. He's very good with his money and I'm afraid if he finds out about my situation, he'll be disappointed and perhaps even angry with me. I know the subject will have to come up one day, but I'm putting it off for as long as I can (or at least until I get some of my debt paid down.)

Not really, he's doing good on his own and he knows that I have expensive taste. So, he pretty much knows how much I spend without me telling him.

When my ex and I lived together, I paid all the bills, going out expenses and everything, so if I went shopping, I'd have to hide it because he'd get mad and say I was spending too much money (he had no job). Obviously, we fought a lot about money since I was the only person paying for anything. Now my new boyfriend and I live in our own apartments and have our own jobs and spend our own money, but share expenses when going out (he pays for dinner, I pay for movie, etc). He actually just texted me saying he was buying a new TV with his tax return, so we do tell each other about big purchases..

My boyfriend knows I like to be frugal. When I go to splurge I always feel really guilty especially when it's on something I really don't need. I usually ask him his thoughts on it, good sale and/or such and his .02

I take care of all the money stuff (it just gives me piece of mind & he is bad at managing money). We have separate accounts & share the bills. There are times here and there that one of us is running a little low & then we help the other one out. We talk about money but at the same time, what we do w/our non-bill money is our own business. I usually try to hide my clothes splurges, but end up telling him anyway. He knows I need clothes. ;)

I would never make a purchase over $100 without talking to my husband, and vice versa.

Yes, we are honest with each other about finances. Despite having separate accounts, his money is just as much mine as mine is his.

My husband and I have separate money, but we always know how much the other one has and what we buy. We don't usually have problems, although he spends a little too much on his motocross hobby.

well my husband is very alpha male when it comes to money the way he sees it is whats his is mine and whats mine is mine =) but im quite conscientious but we both lose it and splurge here and there.

i'm just like you wiciltd, I'm married and we both have separate accounts. We manage our money separately and only talk about money come bill time. My friends don't understand how this works, but it does!

My other half and I discuss everything Our money is separate.. We only share the bills But if he's making a big purchase he tells me about it and we discuss it.. I'm the same way I tell him if I am going to buy something and then we discuss it.. We look at our long term goals and short term and discuss how that purchase may affect it. But what I do with my spare money is my business.. same with him.. If he asks I'll tell him, and he'll do the same

I try to keep my checking and savings account info private, but when I mention one or two things, my boyfriend, the biophysics and math major, can usually calculate exactly how much I have in there...And it's usually a pretty pathetic amount. My boyfriend tries to keep me from wasting too much money on clothes because I don't work and I have lots of bills, and I try to convince him that buying a $5000 projector (and every game console in existence) for his apartment is frivolous. He has the money, but he's barely an adult with a lot more schooling ahead of him...He should save the money for tuition and future loans. We also tell each other all our expenses (I know his bills, he knows mine), and keep each other informed about purchases (I tell him when I buy one bra, and he tells me when he buys a game). I don't know why, but we do. HAHA.

Yea we do here and there. My bf bans me from the malls sometimes, and I try to help him make smart decsions with his money (liek does he REALLY have to wash his car everyday). But I never hide anything! And neither does my bf! I like to show him everything I buy!
