How Much Money Does it Take to Be Rich

When Can You Consider Yourself Rich?

A recent survey by Chicago-based Spectrem Group questioned affluent people about their interpretation of rich, and 25 percent of them said it takes $25 million to be rich, 8 percent said $100 million, and 45 percent said $5 million. The Barron's article doesn't mention the other 22 percent surveyed, but I would guess those answers are scattered between $5 million and $25 million. Barron's created a score card breaking down what they call "true wealth" into three categories.

I always thought that 'rich' was being able to pay the bills on time, and having enough money to save for the future. I guess I never really put a actual number on it.

I think "rich" is definitely millions. Rich means being abundantly wealthy; having more than you could possibly spend. Like others, I'd settle for just plain ol' six-figure $500k+ wealthy. :)

I'd settle for being called poor if it meant I had a high six-figure income.

i would consider myself wealthy at a SIGNIFICANTLY lower level of income/net worth. wow - that's just an amazing scale that they have. who has the ability to shoot for those levels?

I think a consistent 25 mil deems someone "rich."

Well in that case, I have a LONG way to go.
