I'm Asking: Have You Ever Quit During Salary Negotiations?

Last night Paula Abdul announced on her Twitter that she won't be returning to American Idol next season. Paula hasn't given a reason, but it's rumored that she was making $5 to $8 million per season and wanted more . . . a lot more.

There could be millions of reasons why Paula chose to exit stage left, but stories about contract and negotiation disputes suggest she decided to make the move when she didn't get what she wanted.

Negotiating for a job or salary increase can be incredibly frustrating and challenging. Sadly, employers can't always — and often don't — give us what we want. Have you ever walked away from a job after a tough negotiation?

Considering that in these tough times, people are lucky to even HAVE jobs, it'd be ridiculous for me to quit because they didn't want to pay me as much as I wanted. Like others have said, how much money do you really even need?

It sounds a little ridiculous that she was holding out for money except that she's making woefully less than the men on the show. Seacrest makes $15 mil and Cowell makes something like $30 mil. She's getting hosed, in my opinion, so I think it's perfectly legit that she walked away.

There is no negotiating at my job. There is a grid that managers have to follow when handing out raises/bonuses. The only way to get ahead is to have your peers rate you well at the end of the year.

Yes, when I was offered to be permanent (after being a temp for 6 months) and he wanted to offer me waaaay less as a perm than I was making as a temp. No benefits either. I left, 2 months later I found my great new job! Lickety I'm with you on this one, how much does a person REALLY need?

I wonder what it's like to think 5 million dollars isn't enough money to do something.
