I'm Asking: How Did You Find Your Current Job?

Approaching a job search from all angles is the surest way to successfully land something, particularly when there aren't many jobs available. I've always had the most luck finding jobs online, but some of my friends swear by recruiters and others get by with their extensive networks. How did you find your job?

Networking-kinda. My fathers best friend was the VP of a company and needed an assistant. I started without even interviewing. My dads friend has been let go due to company cuts and I was moved into the accounting department and got a raise! :)

After I graduated college in December of 2007, I gave myself until after new years to find a job. I looked through the Sunday newspaper and applied to about 6 or 7 jobs, and my current one is the only one that even called me back. It has nothing to do with what I studied in college, and I really don't even need a college education for what I do, but it's a job nonetheless.

I've found my last two positions on craigslist also! It's funny because I hear sooo much about networking, yet I've had a lot of friends try to help with positions and it's always the places where I don't know anyone that I get hired.

I found my job in a weekly newspaper. I sent in my resume and interviewed a week later. I didn't get word back for the job until about another week and a half later. I had actually gone on another interview for this job that I hated but accepted. On faith, I called that job and said no. One day later I got my job.

I found mine on craigslist, the last 2 jobs I've had in fact. I hate my currrent job but there is nothing else out there right now that I'm qualified for or close enough to home.

When my husband was accepted into a Doctoral program several states away, my at-the-time boss placed a call to his buddy in the town we were moving to. Luckily they needed someone - luckily they interviewed and hired me - and VERY luckily, I love my coworkers!

Networking! I was friends with several of the company's employees so I had great references to begin with.

I'm really surprised no one else has said this, but I got my current job simply by applying directly on the company's career website. During my last search, I targeted the companies I was interested in and started looking directly at the source. Got several interviews that way.

I started out working as a admissions receptionist to get my foot in the door at the hospital I'm at. (It's very hard to get on here.) When an HR position came open, I put in a transfer request, was interviewed by my now boss, and given an offer. I accepted and haven't looked back!

Well, I am self-employed, but I have a part time job as well, and I found that through a staffing agency. They have found me several temp and part time jobs over the years.

Networking ... one of my ex-bosses (I wasn't working for him when I got my current job) knew that I wasn't actively searching for a new job but I was "open to something new". He recommended me to his wife, who's working at HR department at my current job ... they were looking for someone with my profile and I got the job.

Societies related to my field/networking. I met tons of professionals in societies and they were so thrilled with me as a student most of them couldn't wait to shove a job offer on me. However I was featured in a magazine for one of my societies and my current employer contacted me and picked me up. I'm very happy!

verily verily 8 years or Hotjobs. One or the other. I was actually very lucky to be directly hired because normally my workplace uses agencies to supply contractors that they optionally hire after six months.

I got my job through a temp/staffing agency. I started out as a temp and three months later, they offered me a full-time position. Three years later, I'm still there and working my way up the ladder.

my main job i got lucky and actually found in the newspaper. it was in my field and once i went in for an interview with my background i was a sure thing seeing as most other people were just interested in the part time job and i just wanted the animal part. i fill in at an old job every once in a while and i got that one through a recommendation from another place i was working. i also got recommended by my hairstylist for a pet sitting job for one of her other clients before.
