My Boss Does Not Appreciate Me

Savvy Confessions: My Boss Doesn't Value Me

This reader posted in our anonymous Savvy Confessions group, asking how to deal with a boss who doesn't appreciate her. Do you have any advice for her?

I recently started working for this company and I don't have much experience in the field so I had to learn a lot on the job. I've been working here for three months, and they put a lot of pressure on the employees to get things done quickly and well.

Most of the mistakes that I make are due to the fact that I'm still trying to get the hang of things. But otherwise, I'm one of the fastest workers. However, my boss just sees the mistakes. I go to work early, but he just notices that I'm one of the first people that go home (it's actually the hour that everyone is supposed to leave at). I live far from my work, so I don't want to go home too late. And most of the time, I do go back late. This leaves me with no time to clean my place and work out. I'm getting frustrated because I don't have time to myself. I love what I'm doing and I had studied for this, but it is shock, because when I was at college, I had part-time jobs and I found time for everything and now . . .

My contract is for a limited time, and I'm afraid that they won't renew it. I need to turn the things around and I don't know how.

I really feel you on this, its like I am reading my life as is stands right now. I  have been so consumed with my bosses work, since she has her own business and I am trying to learn the ropes and how things work I understand that it takes time because there is a lot about the business that I don't know. She doesn't pay me much because it takes me a while to finish things because most of my time is spent researching, she doesn't want to take the time to learn if her idea will really work for the business she just wants to delegate and have a finished product, lots of times I spend hours and sometimes days doing a Job that she delegates to me all to find out that there is a method and the method takes a lot of time or I find out the idea doesn't even work for what she is trying to accomplish so therefore my pay is held up, she doesn't care how much time I have spent working or researching, what she cares about it that she cant use what I have done and instead of her taking a little time to find out if the ideas that she has will work, she just comes up with the ideas and expects me to get them done. I don't think she appreciates the time and the effort I put in and it really makes me feel like I am being used but all at the same time I really love the work but sometimes it feels like my time is wasted and the only thing she cares about is wheres the finished product. I don't know what I plan to do but maybe something will open up for the both of us where our bosses really see the value in us.   Stay Strong!                   Stay
