Tips For Good Handshakes

3 Unconventional Tips For the Perfect Handshake

A good handshake projects confidence, predicts longevity, and ups your likelihood of snagging the job. A recent comment from reader inspired this mini guide of unconventional handshake tips.

  • Wipe that sweat:  "I used to keep a tissue paper in my pant pocket for interviews. I would reach into that pocket whenever I felt moisture forming in my hand." —
  • Warm those hands: A friend once told me that she would go to the bathroom right before her interview and soak her hands under hot running water so the interviewers won't feel an unpleasant cold handshake.
  • Practice that shake: Practice your grip on your friends. Ask them if your handshake feels firm enough and if you're holding their hand for an appropriate amount of time.
