Front Page: A Perfect Rescue Operation, Mandela Not a Terrorist, Jobs and Airlines in Trouble

  • A Perfect Rescue Operation:
French-Colombian politician Ingrid Betancourt and 14 other hostages freed from FARC rebels in a daring rescue mission has called her release after more than 6 years, a "miracle." She says, "there is no historical precedent for such a perfect operation." The mission was accomplished without a shot fired after the Colombian military penetrated the highest level of FARC and tricked them into handing over the hostages. Among those rescued were three American military contractors and 11 members of the Colombian security forces, all said to be in relatively good health. FARC has been trying to overthrow the Colombian government for 40 years, and still holds over 40 high-profile hostages, among up to 700 other captives.

  • Mandela Not a Terrorist:
US President George W Bush signed a bill removing Nelson Mandela and South African leaders from the US terror watch list. Mandela and ANC party members will now be able to travel to the US without a waiver from the secretary of state. The African National Congress (ANC) was labeled as a terrorist organization by South Africa's former apartheid regime.
  • Jobs and Airlines in Trouble:
The number of former workers signing up for unemployment insurance rose sharply last week. According to a Labor Department report, new applications jumped by 16,000 to 404,000, the highest level since late March. Meanwhile, the airline industry is predicting a $6.5 billion loss for the year, having been hit harder by fuel costs than expected.

I like how the Colombians used Che Guevara shirts to gain trust and get in with the left-wing lunatics of FARC who were holding these hapless innocents hostage. Most people do not realize how dangerous left-wingers really are. Thanks to the left-wing dominated media, most people are spoon-fed a lifelong diet of left-wing propaganda, and do not realize that in fact, the Nazis and other evil regimes were in fact LEFT WING regimes. Hitler, Stalin, Lenin, Trotsky, Mussolini - all the left. Just like Barack Obama - the most extreme left of any American Senator. People buy the line of the media that the Nazis were somehow "right wing" extremists. Right. Since when are Socialists 'right wingers'? The minute they do something reprehensible and the left-wing media wants to compartmentalize them as right-wingers. For those of you who do not know why NAZIs were in fact leftists, you need only know what the acronym stands for: National Socializm. Clearly the left. The International Left and compliant media have made Che Guevara a kind of hero - his image is the best selling tee-shirt in history! How can this be? The regime he supported - Cuba; is an economic basketcase run by a Communist madman. Che Guevara personally gouged peoples' eyes out and murdered them in cold blood. Just because he has long hair and looks like a rock star people will wear his shirt when their Mickey Mouse shirt wears out? That's why I am certain that Che Guevara tee-shirts are a trick. They must be. They are a trick by very intelligent right-wingers to get clueless left-wing diptards to voluntarily identify themselves and mentally-deficient imbeciles. This saves the intelligent folk the 2 minutes of banal conversation it would otherwise take to make the assessment for themselves. The Latin American hero who should be on tee-shirts is Augusto Pinochet! He stopped the vicious Communism of the idiot Salvadore Allende and made Chile the most prosperous country in Latin America, Central America and the Caribbean. No small feat, because it was a basket case when he took over. For a grand finale, he turned over the country to Democratic forces when his work was done. Let's see Che's buddy Castro do that!

Stephley, FARC as an organization has been weakening. A couple of high profile FARC leaders were captured prior to Betancourt's liberation, which no doubt, made it easier for Colombia to trick them, so no, I think FARC is on it's last leg and the other hostages will be easier to free. Betancourt's liberation is huge! It shows how weak the organization has gotten. She is the story honestly, and touting her liberation will reinforce the weakness of FARC as an organization and thus lead to the liberation of other captives.

Why aren't the three American Military contractors the headline?

I guess in keeping with my position as Debbie Downer, as cool as the Colombia rescue is, and it is very cool, doesn't it not bode well for the other 40-high profile hostages and 700 captives? Now that the rebels know they've been tricked, won't they become more careful and possibly ruthless?
