What Was your Best Investment?

Although money doesn't grow on trees, I am sure we are all in agreement in wishing it would! Purchasing big ticket items, whether it is a house, a car, or a fabulous pair of Manolo Blahnik heels, you have to really consider what you are buying. So ladies, do tell, what has been your best investment so far?

now compared to everything you guys have all said, mine is really silly, but I'm writing anyway. My favorite pair of sneakers, my brown laceless Chucks, as seen on my homepagey thingy, are what I consider an awesome investment. They were about $5o, but they don't give me blisters, they don't make my feet smell, even without socks, they fit really nicely, and they go with EVERYTHING in my closet. I could wear these shoes everyday. And so I'd say whatever stupid quote Robin (from cycle 1 of ANTM) said when she bought $800 boots.

the best investments for me so far has been my education. i'm also betting on the longer term: 401k plan (despite the dive in the stock market a few years back, yikes!) and my house. qwerty: yes, law school (full-time, including room & board) can run $60k at one of the top-tier schools. you can get $160k starting salary at leading nyc firms. but don't assume that it's worth it!

401K. I'm only 28, I'm broke and i'm barely skimming by ...but I know NO MATTER WHAT, I pay myself first. Invest the most you can into your retirement. In 1 year, that expensive skirt you think you NEED will be stuffed in the back of your closet. Just think where it'll be in 30 years. YOU are your best investment.

I know that I should start investing, but until then, my best investment would definitely have to be my near $1,000 bed. Coming home from Iraq I was just happy to have any bed so my fiance and I bought a $200 one and boy did we pay for it (with pain)! You could see the outline of the springs through the sheets! Thankfully my dad told me that for Christmas he'd put some money into me getting a new one. Best thing ever.

My best investment has to be my dog, Obi (picture on the left). He cost me quite a bit of money, but just seeing his little face in the morning or after a hard day at work makes my day and always brings a smile to my face.

i would say my education..even though pay sucks! but hopefully i'll get into grad school and be even more invested.. other than that my car, that baby cost me a pretty penny..but i'm proud to say i paid it all on my own.. wow nica..i should start doing what you did.. $13 a month is amazing..

Wow nica that is awesome! I would say my best investment has been in my retirement plan also, but I'm not getting the same type of returns that you are getting :)

Definitely my education has been my biggest and best investment, though since I'm not done with school yet I haven't seen the fruits of my labor.

i too have put money into a retirement account at the urging of my mother. in just under a year and half, i have made over $7,000 from putting in $13/month! now THAT is a good investment!

I have to say my best investment is the money I put into my retirement plans. I know I will thank myself when I older.

well it hasn't paid off yet, and I doubt whether I would consider it an investment as such, but last summer I scored a genuine Hermes scarf for 1 euro at a flee market. I later took it to the Hermes store in Lisbon, and the scarf guys behind the counter (you know those handling the orange boxes) confirmed that it's real, but vintage (gosh am I sorry to hear that? No!). I don't even like the print on the thing, but, at least if I sell it I could perhaps make a very nice profit. In that respect it is my best investment I guess.

I would love to say my education and the 24 grand in student loans I have, but it got me this cruddy job, so not that.
