I can see why San Jose is number one. A lot of Silicon Valley tech companies pay well, have flexible work hours, allow great work/life balance, and provide extra perks. (My company has a free, stellar gym downstairs that provides aerobic and yoga classes as well.) On the flip side, there are a lot of small startups that can provide the grinding life that others might thrive under. There's something for everyone out here!

I'm surprised Portland was one of the worst! I love it here. Although, I would like the weather to be more like CA's!

i find it interesting that all the best places are warm (except washington dc but thats nowhere near as cold as some of the places on the miserable list). Sunshine really does make you happier

Is Pittsburgh that bad it made the list twice?

I'm from Miami, and I find this hard to believe. Especially when, not too longer ago, Forbes Magazine voted Miami the 6th most miserable city in the U.S. We may have a lot of sunshine, but that's about it.
