Adoption Community Doesn't Want Angelina As Their Spokesperson

Adoption Community Doesn't Want Angelina As Their Spokesperson

The Angelina backlash has begun. Recently she has opened up a lot and now it's beginning to make some people angry. She informed us that she was on the pill and she also admitted Shiloh was an accident. Now she's come under attack from adoption advocates after speaking out about Madonna's adoption. Here's more:

"Angelina is not a hero in the adoption community," Tatiana Beams, a Seattle-based international adoption advocate, told Page Six. Beams said parents and other adoption agents are disappointed Jolie "does nothing, or at least very little, to keep international adoption open and legal for American families and children."

Jolie later backtracked from her criticism of Madonna, and told her words had been twisted. But some adoption advocates remain irked by the star's failure to acknowledge her own adoption issues.

When Jolie and then-husband Billy Bob Thorton adopted Maddox in 2002, she used Seattle International Adoptions, run by Lauryn Galindo - who was found guilty two years later of visa fraud and money laundering related to Cambodian adoptions.

Beams said that after Jolie's adoption scandal, Cambodia closed its doors, and many families who were waiting to acquire children were left empty-handed.

"She [Jolie] adopted Maddox under a questionable agency, where the directors went to prison." Beams added, "It would be nice to see her speak out on issues and policies surrounding international adoption."

David Ptasnik, director of Americans Adopting Orphans, admits he was uncomfortable with some practices of Jolie's agency, but said that at the time, "it was the largest agency in the world. Angelina Jolie wouldn't know that she was entering into a questionable adoption."

He's got a point. There's really no way she could have known and the subject is pretty touchy. Maybe Angelina should just be laying low and not giving any interviews for a while! Besides, people just love to twist her words around so she is almost doomed before she even opens her mouth.

Thank you Popchina for your informative post. I always amazes me that the internet is this great tool yet people can't be bothered to search it for answers. A quick search will show you that to adopt a white baby under 2 in America will require a 2 year wait, at least. To adopt a black baby under 2, may take a black couple about 3 to 6 months. But in both cases, waiting lists exists. Many couples miss out. So for those people asking why Angelina and others like her aren't adopting in the US, it doesn't make sense if you want a baby. Of course, there are older children one can adopt but frankly, I don't know many people who are willing to do so, sad though that might be. I'm not even sure I would adopt a 6 or 8 year old child who has been raised in a highly dysfunctional home and it would be hypocritical of me to ask anyone else to do it. As for Madonna, she herself has said that laws for international adoption were completely unclear in Malawi. She probably tried to follow what rules there are and made up what weren't there to begin with. I actually support her adoption of little David Banda but I too have some reservations about the methods she used to adopt her son. where laws don't exist on something, it may not be illegal but it may nevertheless by unethical. I agree with Angelina, Madonna knew that she was on risky ground and she took the risk. Again, as Angelina and Madonna has said, perhaps the 2 good things to come out of this controversy is (1), David is safe and sound and loved and well taken care of and (2), Malawi which has over a million aids orphans, need to develop their adoption laws and be open to foreign adoptions for some of the children URGENTLY.

First, I would like to apologize for writing an angry-sounding message. I think I must have been responding to too many recent messages - not only here- but on other boards and in the press in general. Again, I am sorry for being so harsh in my responses.

Hopes for 2007: Jen finds a man that she can keep that makes her happy and has a baby (adopted or natural doesn't matter) She finally transitions successfully into film or thankfully gives up and has a hit TV series. Angie and Brad adopt another child and right before 2008 find out AJ is pregnant again. Everyone lives happily ever after (4-5 Hollywood years) and the media finally stops beating their favorite dead horse.

sashak..her problem is she will answer the question when is just in her nature and she isn't defensive enough yet to analysis what she says before she says how are they going to use this again me mentality.. she is so off the cuff it leaves room for manipulation and of course they will manipulate it because she sells magazines..America loves to hate her and who buys the most magazines? teenagers and soccer moms who for the most part all have vilified her as the wild child homewrecker who destroyed their golden couple dream.. I am seriously afraid that it will never end. Whether they celebrate their 20 "together" anniversary and have 10 kids or break up in a year.. I think the :MOB: will continue to hunt her. It may simmer down if Jen A EVER gets into a stable relationship that she will admit that she is in before it is over and looks happy and has a child of her own..then and maybe only then will it simmer down. But with walking around all Miss Lonely Hearts makes it hard. But seeing her track record :OY:.. that might take awhile. Here hoping 2007 is the year!!

Popchina you sound really angry! instead of attacking people maybe you should just explain then if you know so much about the adoption system, i'm sorry if I didn't know all the details about the system the point I was trying to make was that kids are still a little better here than in third world countries given how there are more opportunities here than there. So sorry if you had to be one of those ma and pa kettles you were talking about but that's really not my fault. So keep your bitterness out of my comments cause I wasn't here to pin point anyone i just wanted to give my opinion, which in america you are free to do so. since you like your research so much try looking up our rights too and teach them to your beautiful adopted children. Also I would like to let you know that whatever backlash you prepare against me will go unansweard since you don't seem like the kind of person worth having any contact wih again. Good luck Ma.

Popchina is right about that orphanage thing. One of my best friends is a counselor for a "orphanage" and she clued me in a while back that orphanages as we know them in movies like Annie don't exist anymore. The kids live in foster care and spend the day at these homes getting various forms of treatment , help, activities, etc. And I also know what Pop is talking about. It's hard as HELL to adopt a child in the US. I have a friend whose sister is going through this now and once they have the money, they;re going to china cuz they basically have to accept a child with serious mental or physical problems to get one here, if they can at all. It's really quite baffling what the adoption system in this country is like.

Sashak - Thanks for the info on Jenkins Orphanage. RE: Jenkins Orphanage – It looks like it is still being referred to that way – as an orphanage, but the actual name is Daniel Joseph Jenkins Institute for Children – see link. It appears to be run as a group home. What is really concerning in the article below is that the director is lamenting about not having 500 children on site and hoping to revitalize the Institute. I certainly hope they are not successful in this endeavor. As the article states, orphanages went out in the 40’s and are not considered an acceptable level of care for children. I can’t understand someone trying to drive up the numbers of children living in a residential setting.{26EEE9B0-91FE-481B-89B9-952E6428D404}&PageName=AgencyDetails SC State Helps Jenkins Orphanage Actually, a number of listings pop up if you do a search on US orphanages - most of them are for Christian Private Schools or group home type settings. I didn't look into all of them.

People won't take it upon themselves to visit any adoption sites and read the positive words of those who've actually adopted and how those words generally counter what this so-called expert says. They prefer to take at face value the assertion by Tatiana Beams that her negative attitude regarding Angelina Jolie's is not only based on fact (it is not) and that her opinion of AJ is one thats shared across the board. One doesn't have to be a fan to see the unfairness in that. Page Six is being held up as some font of journalistic integrity when in fact it's not anymore fit to be birdcage liner than the Star or National Inquirer. BTW my08.........why should she have to be quiet? What is her speaking have to do with your life in any size shape form or fashion? Are you being forced to read or listen?

Ummmmmm, I'm confused. I thought the whole goal of adoption was to find a good, safe homes for a kid that doesn't have one. From where I sit, it looks like that's what has happened for Angelina's kids (and Maddona's too). Obviously, they have great love for these children. So, why can't every body just back off and let them raise their kids? And you know that Angelina's comments about Shiloh were totally taken out of context. As the Mom of three kids I can say you may love them differently but you love them all equally -- adopted or not.

the main problem is that interviers ask questions, she answers them, & then her answers or responses are taken like she just randomly said all this stuff. I don't know why she is such a lightening rod when so many other celebs lead far far worse lives... I think some people are still terrified of a strong willed woman who is perfectly capable of running her own life & doesn't give a shit about what people think...

I do not beleive that ONE single adoption has closed the doors to an entire country. This sounds greatly exxaggerated, and anytime you are dealing with adoption in other countries there can be so many conflicts. Also, even if adopting Maddox has some shady areas, I really do not it would be appropriate for Maddox to see footage of her giving an interview about it. It is a private matter, she does not owe the media ANYTHING. Lots of people do shady things to get kids, I beleive if anything innopropriate was done, Angie did not know until after.

And I am part of the labeled Brangeloonie club.. I don't mind lables.. I couldn't stand her during her wild child phase and during the Billy Bob stage..but I appreciated her "awakening" when she went to Cambodia and Sierra Leone. And I took interest in her work with the UNCHR because she was so much more hands on then most celebrities. I enjoyed watch her grow up and stop the self destructive behaviors and make a better healthier life for herself. I enjoy her interviews because she was always brutally point blank and honest which is refreshing. And she is the first to admit her mistakes and problems and wild child behavior. Also refreshing. I have always been a fan of Pitt since I saw him at the movies in Thelma & Louise (I was kinda bored until he showed up). I have been a huge fan every since. Always disliked'd and hiss'd when they started dating and got married.. so of course I am a fan of BP and AJ. Do I think she is a Do I think they make mistakes..yes.. Do I think they want to make a difference in this world and that that is a hella lot better than Lohan or Paris or a lot of other self consumed celebrities..yes. Bring on the angry horde of Angie hater!!LOL! Any fan is used to them at this point? And they are easy to spot :MOB: So if I think she is getting a raw deal and that the majority want to find fault in her and judge her by the screaming headlines at the check out counter vs. watching entire interview or reading the entire interview... I will defend her. I don't care if people hate her..just hate her for the facts not the manufactured bullshit or innuendo or twisting words until it fit a preconceived notion.

Honestly if she chooses her words so carefully she wouldn't say things like I prefer to stay on the side of the law without doing enough research on her own adoption first. And she didn't respond to the comments she made about Madonna's adoption until all the negative publicity started to come out. I don't hate Angelina but I think this time she mis-spoke and is trying to do some damage control.

Taffy..she said that she isn't the fall apart, need a shoulder to cry on, hugger, but that she loves hugging and kissing the kids..then I think they ended that article with Brad getting out of the cessna scooping her up in a big hug, grabbing her ass, and they held on to one another the whole walk from the plane to the hanger laughing and talking and hugging.. so go figure. I read that part to my husband and he said "So Brad gets to have amazing sex with Angelina Jolie and then can roll over and fall cuddling and hugging.. lucky bastard."

Actually... you are wrong... I'm not a big fan of anyone actually. I come to his website 'cause sometimes I have nothing to do, plus its interesting reading what other girls think about, however, at the end of the day nothing that its posted here really matters, if indeed did matter, Britney would had stop partying loooong time ago. All I'm saying it is not fair the way she is being criticized... how many wealthy actors and actress don't care shit, and she actually does care and actually she does something about it. She is so human being as you and me, and "Shiloh was an accident", she has to whole right to say it and panic about it as probably i millions girls do every day when they found out they are pregnant by accident. SO she is exposing herself and this is what she gets.... ummmm not cool.
sashak sashak 10 years
uh yeah, madhershy it is ok to have my own opinions about AJ. I don't have "deep feelings" about her, I just feel like she is unjustly attacked no matter what she does. I don't like it when anyone is unjustly attacked be they AJ or not...
